  • Jackson pickups...

Why Jackson uses Seymour Dungan JB instead of Distortion?

Randy used it in firsts Jacksons he owned and Jackson uses after all these years Jazz pickups in neck position.

And it's cheaper because of that.

That's a good question actually. Maybe they should change their spec sheet to include some different flavors instead of vanilla. Maybe some nice chocolate fudge like EMG's...

I always wished that Jackson would use DiMarzio's in their stuff, because I am more partial to their products. Never had much luck with Duncans myself.

It has been a working formula for over 20 years. I too wouldn't mind some DiMarzio options, but the JB has been a top dog for a long, long time. I was surprised that the So-Cal's have a pair of DiMarzio's, and I'm glad they do.

No kiddin? I didnt know that the SoCal's have DiMarzios.
It would be nice to have more options from Jackson. I know that alot of people tear the JB's out as soon as they get their guitars. I did the same thing with my DK2L.

The truth is the retail, MAP, wholesale and OEM Wholesale prices are the same for both and most other vintage style (construction wise) Duncan Humbuckers

Meh...just change the stock pickups to WHATEVER you want in there. No big whoop.

The JB is a versitile pickup , it can do rock, jazz, blues and metal. the distortion is basically a metal/rock pickup so the JB is the better choice for production guitars.

I think that's partly true, but any pickup can work for any music. If Zakk Wylde played a 3 single coil equipped Squier I'll betcha it would still sound like him. Or if Carlos Santana played a Kerry King V with EMG's I'll betcha it would still sound like him. Moral of the story? Effects, amps, strings, and your own fingers are what makes the tone.
