  • JE-1500 and JE-1200 turned OFF = same tone as REMOVING active system???

Hey. I have a Warrior pro and I removed the JE-1500 and changed the stock Kent Armstrong pickups. I never tried using the Armstrong pickups without the JE-1500 because I did all of the modding at once.

If I install the Armstrong pickups in a different guitar WITHOUT the JE-1500, would that sound like my warrior with the JE-1500 switched off? Did switching the JE-1500 off only turn the wah filter off while the active low-impedance stuff was still affecting the tone?

I also have a Soloist was a JE-1200. If I turn the mid-boost knob to zero, is that the same tone I'd get if I remove the JE-1200?

As far as I'm aware removing the active systems with give you roughly the same sound as with them turned down/switched off. The only difference would be on longer cable runs where the impedance works with the cables inherent capacitance to filter the signal. The low impedance electronics were developed for that reason. No matter what the cable length was it should sound basically the same.

The low-impedance circuitry uses 50k pots. Using 50k pots without an active system would kill my high frequencies, right? So I'd be using standard 500k pots? I've only wiring passive guitar/basses, so active stuff is all new to me.

If you remove ANY active Jackson circuit you will need to change the pots to get full frequencies. You can run those Armstrongs without the circuitry, they are, like all pickups in Jacksons, passive. Jackson never used in house active pickups, only the circuit was active. In fact, those same Armstrong dual rails were used in the Charvel Predator and some Charvel Fusions of that era.

so the Armstrong running through the active system with 50k pots with the wah filter off should sound the same as the Armstrong running through an all passive system with 500k pots?
