  • Help Comparing V's

Recently I sold my old Wolfgang USA Special for 400 bucks. It was a beater and had a lot dents and dings in it. I want to replace it, but I'm stuck with trying to decide what kind of guitar to get. Gear-wise I have 4 super strats: 2 Charvel USA Pros, EBMM axis, P.O.S. Ibanez RG. I also have a Joe Perry LP and a Thinline Tele copy to get me different tones when need be.

I'm not exactly sure where to go from here. I was thinking of getting something a bit different. Maybe I should go for different body wods or a more radical shape. Then again, I could take the safe route and buy another Charvel USA pro. I love their neck shape, but my concern is that I don't want to be limited to just their fell, but with different pu's. In my SD1 i have a Suhr/Jazz w/ coil taps and my SC1 is stock. I could get the SD2 aand keep it stock as well, but I might want a change from their feel to keep them fresh.

So... I'm thinking about going for a different body shape and into Jackson territory. I also have a little under a grand to spend, and can't afford a CS and I'll proabably have to get my next axe used. I wanted some help determining which guitar is best for my needs. I should mention that comfort, feel, and quality are my first objectives. The guitar has to have a superb floyd unit. I was not satisfied with the trem on my last DK2M.

I've thought about the KE2 and am not sure. I've played the KE3's and wanted more, but never played a KE2. Any opinions?

Then there are the V's. Latley, I've been playing a bunch of V's at shops and have been really enjoying them. I actually like playing them sitting down in the classical position. Anyhow, how close in terms of feel and quality do the RR24/RR24M and Dremel V's compare to an RR1? I really like the RR1, but can't seem to find a good one in my price range.

There ore other companies who make comparable V's- ESP LTD and Carvin, Gary Kramer, UNK. I posted this question on HC and someone said I should see if Ran could build me one cheaply. If I went that route, maybe I'd just get a death kelly shape.

I guess my real question is what route should I take. And how do the upper level Jackson imports compare to their usa made counterparts?

Keep saving until you have close to $1500. Then score a used KV2 or RR1. I think there are a couple of RR1's on the bay for $1200-$1300. You will not be disappointed with either.

The point is that I'm not going to save up. I'm already adding $500 bucks on top of my old wolfie. For once, I need some money for other things.

a friend of mine has got one of these, he loves it, and when I played it, I did too...
they are really nice players, but I suggest to choose one personaly if you got the possibility to. My buddys first axe went back to the store due to a bad paintjob and bad bindings, but the one he's got now seems pretty perfect to me.

and for classical position while sitting down, there's nothing like a rhoads IMO.
my first real guitar (after my dads old cheapo I started with) was a rhoads, now it's three of them and I honestly don't see a way back. not that I wanted to...

Keep an eye out for an RR1. You may be able to score one for under a grand if you're not particular on cosmetic issues.

As far as imports vs. USA go, there are lots of opinions on that around here. For me, I can definitely tell the difference and tend to stay away from the imports. There are some good imports out there, specifically the Professional model Mustaine Vs.

All else fails, ESP makes some good LP shaped guitars (Eclipse) that are high-quality, and can be had for around that. Eclipse IIs are great guitars. No Floyd though on the Eclipse.

            They make a Floyded Eclipse.

I would also recommend ESP LTD if you can't find a Jackson in your price range. I'm saving for an LTD V-401.

The RR24 is a fantastic guitar. Its just a stripped down for action RR1 in my opinion. I've just traded mine for something else (along with another guitar and money) but I really thought highly of it. Well made, plays like a dream and sounds great.

As good as the old Professional guitars in my opinion. Easily.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.
