  • NG Fender Strat w/ Floyd Rose on the way

Been jonesing recently for a traditional looking Fender Strat that has an original locking nut Floyd Rose system since all of my other guitars have flowers, flames, pointy headstocks, swirls and what not. I need something that isn't as loud visually. A day of research led me to the 1992-97 USA made Floyd Rose Classic series which were done in red, black, white and sunburst. Seems they are pretty hard to find, not impossible but seem to sell pretty quickly when they do show up.

Most Floyd Rose Fenders now are made in Mexico or Japan, have licensed (not original) Floyd Rose and those are all over. I just prefer things that are a bit harder to find so the USA made series made sense.

Anyway, I latched on to this one online today. Pickups have been upgraded and the knobs aren't original (seller is sending a new set of knobs) but otherwise it is supposed to be in very good shape. I'm very much looking forward to its arrival next week.

Those are cool guitars - I've tried out a couple in the past. The only thing I didn't dig was how the volume knob was right in the way of the bar for doing whammy action and dive-bombs.

Hmm, I didn't notice that. It definitely looks like that could be annoying.

Nice. I've always liked those models. As I remember, the floyd is flush mounted as well?

It is a flush mount trem. I'm stoked about it too, but I've been stoked about guitars before and when they arrive they just didn't hit it off with me so they went back out the door days later. Some guitars you just connect to and others you don't. We'll see next week.

You can search the web for "Fender Floyd Rose Classic Stratocaster" and try to find one but I wen't through the whole internet over the past two days and this is the only one I found currently for sale. They do show up from time to time though, should be anywhere between $800-$1,500 depending on condition, color and who is selling it. This one is on Gbase.com.

That looks great! I wouldn't mint owning a Fender Strat with a non-recessed floyd rose.

Guitar received today, very nice all things considered. Feels solid and well built, not like some cheap mass produced toy (let me tell you about the 2007 Gibson Flying V I tried for about ten minutes before I sold it, ugh). You can depress the bar all the way without hitting the knob because of the way the tip of the bar is angled but the springs are very stiff. The OFR works like it should and stays in tune well enough. The previous owner put a Seymour Duncan something or another in the bridge and Texas Specials in the other two slots, all positions still have a very Stratty sound which I'm not sure I love, might need to put some hotter pickups in at least the bridge but I'll give it some time first. Looks and plays nice, good quality, I'd say that so far it is a keeper. If I found another in classic white I'd buy it too.

That's beautiful. I love it. I had one of those and foolishly sold it, but mine wasn't as nice looking as yours. If you decide to sell it, please add me to the list of interested buyers.

Nice axe..definitely consider a Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 for the bridge if you want major punch, attack, clarity while remaining well balanced...you'll probably dig it, Rock On
