  • Fender Wolfie

I walked into the local shop today for some strings and finally saw in person the Fender Wolf. They had all 3 colors. I plugged in the black one and they are pretty fukin cool, but damn 3k is high for that axe...isn't it?? My Peavey USA Special suits me fine.

I think he means the EVH guitar. Is it still called a Wolfgang? Lame ass name.

Its got the same MIK Floyd that the ProMods come with and its labeld "EVH" like Eddie invented the friggin' thing. What's next? Gene Simmons patents the Marshall stack?

The new one comes with OFR and Eddie had a big part in designing the thing back in the 70's. For example the fine tuners were his idea in the first place.

Oh no doubt he got one of the first ones from Floyd himself. But I think Eddie's gone on record as "designing" a lot of things he probably didn't.

If you look at the Floyd on the EVH guitar, it does not have the Floyd Rose logo on it - its got the circle EVH logo and the beveled edge MIK zinc saddles. Maybe they sound better to him and that's what he wanted, but it's clearly not a Schaller German-made Floyd from the looks of it.

we all know how Eddie is but in this case Ed is the right, Mr. Floyd didn't gave him any credit at all. But Steve Lukather who is friends with both, Ed and Floyd and has one of the first OFR's ever made can assure that Ed had a part in developing the trem.

that's interesting as the new Wolfies were planned with OFR's. I guess they changed that now.

Well damn there goes my thread. What I meant was I played the new...let me get it right...Fender-EVH Wolfgang...today and felt it was way ass overpriced for that tired, warmed over Ernie Ball MM/Peavey Wolfgang. I payed 2000$ each for my SL-1 and PC-1 and the latest Wolfgang is friken 3000$. I was wondering if that was how you guys saw it. (Ripoff)

No one is holding a gun to anybodys heads forcing them to buy EVH guitars... So I don't think it's a rip-off.

I wonder how they're selling. The price does seem pretty damn high to me, but as grandturk says, no-on is being forced to buy 'em...

GC on 14th St had all three this weekend - black, white, sunburst (thats it, right?).

I think its a good looking axe, but I really liked the Axis a lot.

Yep, that's the three. I think they look great...I just think 3k is way too high...but you are right, no guns to heads. I'm with you, I'll take an Axis. (For like 1200 less)

Even the Axis is pretty high. I liked it at $1200 and lower when it first when from the EVh model to the Axis. Great necks.

I own the Ernie Ball Musicman, and it an early one -1991. I think there is no comparison between the EVH Fender and the MM. Of course I also think there is no comparison between the Peavey and the MM.

After playing the EVH Fender for awhile a few months back my assessment was that it was a equal to a Charvel produiction model made of basswood but assembled by the Fender CS for higher QC (if such a thing exists below the Masterbuilt Series at FMIC). The neck is the nicest part of the guitar but not all that it could be.

I really wanted to buy it until I had it in my hands. I planned to buy it, I even liked the headstock while most don't. But there is no way I'll pay that kind of money for that guitar. There just isn't 25-2800 there if you know what I mean. Price-wise, if you deduct the EVH royalty, and the Fender CS upcharge how much is guitar really worth on the street? IMHO about 1500 bucks. I don't see, feel, or hear anything in that guitar that makes me think it should cost more. It's priced dead in line with an average LP or high-dollar USA Strat (where it ideally should be marketed), but the components and quality aren't there. ALL IMHO. It doesn't "feel" like it should cost that.

If you have 2K or more, drive right past the Fender and Peavey dealers and track down a nice EBMM. When he could have anything he wanted (no lawsuits, everyone trying to please him) he had the EBMM built. It's still IMHO the best of the three by a safe distance if for no other reason than the high quality of ther build in comparison to the others. If you have 1500 buy a Peavey or else wait these things out. The Art series are basically the same stuff with a strat body so......

Also, everyone has their own opion as do I, but that guy earned whatever he has coming to him good, bad, and otherwise. He's still the 800 pound gorilla in the room as guitar players go. When you find someone who by their very existence has sold more guitars and had a bigger impact on rock music than Eddie then you'll have made a helluva discovery because, well, I don't think you will anytime soon. That guy just about single-handedly put Gibby and Fender out of business 25 years ago. Good luck on your quest!
Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?
