• Picked up a Kramer Project Guitar today

    Hey All,

I picked up a Kramer guitar earlier today. It was advertised as a Baretta. I knew very quickly that it was not.

I was hoping someone here could help me identify what I purchased and what the value would be worth. I paid $250 cash. I fiquired the Floyd, Schaller tuners, Kramer Bananna neck where worth it.

The guitar is in bad shape and have been worked on by someone that has little to no skill.

The Bananna headstock tappers down and backwards. It has a Baretta cover over the truss rod, but it looks fake as it does not fit tight to the nut. As you can see from the PICS, it was not on this body originally. The idiot did not drill pilot holes and has cracked the base of the next. Can this be fixed? If so, how? I plan to fill all the holes with dowels and glue, but do not know what I can do about the cracks...

The body looks like a Kramer to me (based on shape). It was originally routed for two humbuclers. They were filled in and the bridge was set at an angle to look like a Baretta.

I am not sure what the pick-up is. Again, I would be grateful for any help or advise.

    Many Thanks,

I think if we all got to know each other that well, we'd all get the creeps and renounce our Platinum memberships!

I know, what a hack job... Its a great neck and plays really well.

Frigo89 - Thanks, can you tell me how you are identifying the neck?

This is what I am considering. Drilling one or two small holes into the crack so that I can ensure I inject a healthy amount of glue into the crack. Once set, I would re-drill to holes and fill with dowels.

                    Any suggestions?

Thought I would provide an update (with PIC's now that I have fiqured out how to use Photobucket

Anyway - I took the neck into my local repair shop and they charged me $15 to fix the neel. They did a great job and said it would be as good as new.

I ordered a 37 mm Brass Block from Floyd Upgrades and EVH D-tuna. Picked up a DiMarzio 500 K volume pot.

I researched the pick-up which was installed. It a VEH - Vintage Extra Hot from Guitar Fetish.com (a very inexpensive Brown Sound - sounded pretty good when I tested the guitar). I am considering switching it out for a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom.

Body and Headstock have been completely stripped. I noticed that one of the posts on the Floyd was loose so I filled in the holes and reset the posts. Same with the neck.

I an currently on the Primer Coat.

Anyway, it been hours of enjoyment

That thing had the ugliest finish ever when you first got it. It looks like leather, utterly sickening!

You seem to be sorting it now though. What colour you doing it?

What I find strange is the thing had a neck HB at one point but looks like it only has one control hole (Volume).

Usually if it had a neck HB, it would have two more controls...either vol/tone/tone or vol/vol/tone...like most Imperials.

It leads me to believe this was a RI Retta that someone cut up.
Picks of the rear and control cavity might help.
