  • I asked this on the Strat forum but...

...didn't get an answer yet.. so I will ask here...

I ordered two tone knobs and a vol knob from StewMac for my Strat project. They are supposed to fit Strats. Well the pickups I got are Vintage Noiseless... by Fender... for Strat.... yet the knobs are slightly too small to fit on the shafts of the pots that came with these pickups. Stew Mack only offers the one size. Any suggestions where I can get the knobs I need? Thanks.

Are the shafts solid or cam you bend them in a little?

Sounds like you got knobs designed for import pots.

Go somewhere other than Stew Mac to get real Fender knobs.

Rich is saying some pots have a shaft with a slit that you can widen with a flat blade screwdriver for a tighter fit, or smash together with plyers to make smaller.

So you might be able to smash them together to get them to fit - maybe. Don't bust your pot shafts...

You got import knobs for USA sized shafts. Save yourself the hassle and get the correct sized knobs from Darren Riley.

If you use the wrong size knobs, they may end up tilted a little or a lot and they may not sit low enough on the pickguard. Worst case you could break the shaft on the pot and have to replace it.

I just did this, this week and it worked fine. The knobs sit high on the pots only because I left off the washer and broke off the tabs.

Check with RS Guitarworks. I'm not 100% sure of this, but on one of my last projects I was checking out their stuff and seem to recall them having SAE pots and/or knobs.

stewmac knobs don't fit on fender pots. bought some for my strat and had the same problem. if you read the fine print it says they only fit stewmac pots Sorry, throw them in the useless pile of your toolbox where mine still are lol

also I have to say I dont recommend bending the tabs of your pots to fit a knob that wasn't meant to fit on there. I ruined a perfectly good set of CTS pots I ordered for an old LTD I had by trying to do the same thing.. now they're in the useless section of my toolbox right next to the stewmac knobs, hahaha

Sweet, thanks. I did squeeze them together slightly and they fit. I didn't want to do that when I discovered the problem but seeing that other people have done it, I figured I would give it a shot.
