  • NGD - Mike Learn Custom Zombie

I've loved zombie films for as long as I can remember so I finally decided to get a zombie guitar made for me and Mike Learn was the man who could pull it off. Needless to say, it's a dream come true in the way it looks and the way it plays.

    Basic specs are:
    - Alder body
    - Gotoh hardtail bridge
    - Ebony fingerboard with custom zombie inlays
    - Dunlop 6100 frets
    - Flamed maple neck (D profile, 1 11/16" nut, 2 1/4" heel)
    - Reverse headstock painted to match body
    - Locking Schaller tuners
    - Dimarzio Tone Zone in bridge, painted to match the finish.
    - Dimarzio PAF Joe in neck, painted to match finish.
    - Volume control
    - Dimarzio 3 way (EP1111) that splits the humbucker in its middle position.
    - Hardshell Zombie case by Postal Monkey

Awesome man, that thing rocks. Killer work by Mr. Learn. The inlays are brilliant. Let us all know how it plays once you've had some quality time together.

          H-o-l-y shit!!!
Yesterday is history; tomorrow is a mystery; but today is a gift; that's why it is called the present.

Oh, we've some quality time together and it plays incredibly well. The action is very comfortable and it's very, very easy to get at those upper frets thanks to the exaggerated cutaway and angled heel. As listed in the specs, the neck has a "D" profile which feels really nice. It feels wide than it is which makes moving horizontally across the fretboard very easy. The neck has the ever popular tung oil treatment so my hand just glides along it.

Isn't it? It would be a fitting guitar for someone in a death metal band (which I am not) but it's just my way of expressing my love of the zombie genre.

One of the things I did with Mike during the design process was to send him a compilation video of my favorite moments from my favorite zombie flicks. He went through that and picked out scenes that caught his eye and based the graphic design around that.

I can pick out the films that each zombie on the guitar came from. I wonder if anyone else can.

Here's the headstock and yes, I ordered it without a truss rod cover.

                    That's incredibly sick.

As I was looking at the pictures - before I got to the inlays - and I said, "Didn't he commission a guitar with a zombie inlay?" and then I thought, "How many zombie guitars does this guy have?"

                    Looks awesome!
