  • Ovation acoustic

Saw one yesterday out pawn shopping model 1139 balladeer.$180.00
Its looks like an early 80's but has a hump in the fretboard towards the last frets would this be an easy fix?
Don't know much about Ovation USA guitars.
    Everything else looks good.OHSC too.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

dont know about the fix but that price is a steal. my usa ovation (1974) is my favourite with the most comfortable neck i have ever felt on an acoustic.
Say, I smell bacon.Does anyone else smell bacon?
Yeah, I definitely smell a pork product of some type.

I love Ovation guitars. I have a low end one and the thing still sounds UBER sweet.

The hump is relatively common in those.
I have repaired several, typically at $200.
Not a real easy fix - you pull all the frets from #12 down,
level the board, and reinstall the frets.
Then a final level and polish.

I under-charged, but it always worked.

Thanks Cyg I found another one today and its a 1117-1 so a 71 same color same hump in the fretboard.Looks like the neck is glued to the body at the bowl and bolted inside.Looks like an easy fix but these have no resale value at all.
Even at $180.00 if I spend time fixing it I'm only going to get $ 200.00 out of it.
No profit for me at all.

Well it was worth it to the players that became attached to them.
            As a money making venture...no.
            As you said.

They play well and sound good just no dollars in them from what I can tell.I may pick both of them up if the price is right and just fix them.Who knows down the road the prices may come up.

I have found the same with Yammie APX guitars.
The players liked them enough to get the work done, even with the estimate.
But certainly not worth it unless you like doing the labor for free.
(Which I am far too guilty of).
