i LOVE sparkly stuff. many of you will recall my "disco-ball" (to quote ron) soloist...well, i always have my eyes open for hideous sparkly painted guitars - they add a certain level of flambouyance whilst performing on stage.

anyway, my drummer (who happens to play a large, late 70's gold sparkle ludwig drum kit) and i stopped into the cursed guitar center last sunday to buy picks and sticks.

i look over and see this cool looking daisy rock LP copy (fear not, my metal bretheren i did not buy a daisy rock). it was sparkly pink. under it, on the ground were two fenders. a silver sparkle strat and a pink sparkle tele. i just about shit myself.

i LOVE telecasters. they are amazing. i LOVE pink guitars. they make a statement. i LOVE sparkles. they allow the audience's eyes to leave my singer every now and then and actually look at me (after all, aren't all of gigging players a bit on the vain side?). but, most importantly....this tele had a humbucker in the bridge!!!! YAY!!!

so, i tried it. i plugged it into a boogie MKIV and let it rip. i was quite pleased. stock, it got the job done. then i went and plugged it into a fender twin reverb. i played some country and blues. i was quite pleased. stock, it got the job done.

was i overwhelmed by the blazing quality? fuck no. i have PRS and brian moore guitars that sit in the case for the rare occasion that i feel like playing them. i am very much married to the quality and workmanship of my USA select and custom shop jackson/charvel guitars. they are my gigging bread and butter. my meat and potatoes. my dick and balls...

    you get the idea.

the guitar was priced at $169.00. i just about shit. i was very pleased with the way i could use this guitar as a tool and not fear its total destruction if my band has to play a pizza joint or a bar with pabst blue ribbon on tap....

so, i take the guitar, as is....no set-up nothing to sunday's rehearsal. threw it on the back seat of the car, drove 90 minutes to my practice space, plugged it in, checked the tuning - and it was still in tune!!! played 5 hours with it, as it was in the store and ony retuned it twice.

to close my long winded tale, i present to you my newly aquired squier FSR limited edition standard telecaster. that's a long name, so it's called the pink sparkle guitar.

the pics are of it stock. i have some parts coming to upgrade it. i ordered a gotoh brass bridge, a GFS bigmouth bridge pickup, cts pots and a better quality switch. i replaced the knobs with some smaller ones that have a position dot on them. i have a USA fender tele neck pickup that is getting dropped in there as well.

    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

I have a Squire Tele (Vintage Modified in Shoreline Gold) and it holds up well against most everything else in my collection. I did upgrade the bridge pickup to a Duncan Lil '59, but kept the Duncan Designed neck pickup, and added a coil split push/pull knob.

It's all over the web how these Chinese Squires are the best bang for your cheap-ass buck out there! Even close up the fret work is astounding.

Shows what you can get done for a bowl of rice a day over there... scary.

The sparkles 'n pink just add fun... Congrats brother!

I thought Tele's had a single coil bridge pickup?

It's great you like sparkly guitars. Someone has to

No, I sort of liked the Silver or Gold Charvel sparkle finishes. Not enough to pull the trigger...

Most do, that's why he was stoked to find this one. Pretty sweet looking, and I actually liked my '98 Affinity Squier Strat better than my Mexican Standard Strat of the same year. 22 frets instead of 21, nicer neck, even hotter pickups than the Mexi-Strat.

thanks, all. and don, lerx is right. i got pumped on this guitar because it still looks enough like a traditional tele but has the humbucker. there aren't too many to me still look "right" when you put the double coil pickup in there.

the fret work on the guitar IS quite nice. not 1000 + nice, but most certainly useable straight off the stand. the neck profile is comfy and the weight is just right. all in all, i am quite stunned that i bought an excellent looking and playing guitar for the cost of an OFR bridge.
