i LOVE sparkly stuff. many of you will recall my "disco-ball" (to quote ron) soloist...well, i always have my eyes open for hideous sparkly painted guitars - they add a certain level of flambouyance whilst performing on stage.
anyway, my drummer (who happens to play a large, late 70's gold sparkle ludwig drum kit) and i stopped into the cursed guitar center last sunday to buy picks and sticks.
i look over and see this cool looking daisy rock LP copy (fear not, my metal bretheren i did not buy a daisy rock). it was sparkly pink. under it, on the ground were two fenders. a silver sparkle strat and a pink sparkle tele. i just about shit myself.
i LOVE telecasters. they are amazing. i LOVE pink guitars. they make a statement. i LOVE sparkles. they allow the audience's eyes to leave my singer every now and then and actually look at me (after all, aren't all of gigging players a bit on the vain side?). but, most importantly....this tele had a humbucker in the bridge!!!! YAY!!!
so, i tried it. i plugged it into a boogie MKIV and let it rip. i was quite pleased. stock, it got the job done. then i went and plugged it into a fender twin reverb. i played some country and blues. i was quite pleased. stock, it got the job done.
was i overwhelmed by the blazing quality? fuck no. i have PRS and brian moore guitars that sit in the case for the rare occasion that i feel like playing them. i am very much married to the quality and workmanship of my USA select and custom shop jackson/charvel guitars. they are my gigging bread and butter. my meat and potatoes. my dick and balls...
you get the idea.
the guitar was priced at $169.00. i just about shit. i was very pleased with the way i could use this guitar as a tool and not fear its total destruction if my band has to play a pizza joint or a bar with pabst blue ribbon on tap....
so, i take the guitar, as is....no set-up nothing to sunday's rehearsal. threw it on the back seat of the car, drove 90 minutes to my practice space, plugged it in, checked the tuning - and it was still in tune!!! played 5 hours with it, as it was in the store and ony retuned it twice.
to close my long winded tale, i present to you my newly aquired squier FSR limited edition standard telecaster. that's a long name, so it's called the pink sparkle guitar.
the pics are of it stock. i have some parts coming to upgrade it. i ordered a gotoh brass bridge, a GFS bigmouth bridge pickup, cts pots and a better quality switch. i replaced the knobs with some smaller ones that have a position dot on them. i have a USA fender tele neck pickup that is getting dropped in there as well.
