The mini switches are phase, series/parallel for each pickup (sounds like coil tap with less hum), and booster (think pre-amp). Some Bichs have a second booster and treble boost. The chicken head is a vari-tone.
Pebber or Lorne can jump in here. The lone "R" denotes the US/Mexico handmades. I don't know if that has been strictly followed at all times. The Nagoya Japan made NJ's of the early '80's used the R with B and C to the sides and ich coming down. I always hated the script logo. Many crap guitars carried it and it tarnished the name.
the early script logo guitars were just as good as any later era "R" logo'd bcrichs. & i dont think the bich ever had just a seperate treble booster, it was a double preamp with a seperate vol for each preamp. great thing is everything but the preamp/booster still works with out the batteries. & once u bleed the cap it will act as a kill switch.
R logo, were used for Customs only,BUT,as Pebber's last pic shows, this is a JE Bich,JE standing for Japan Edition, there are also Japan Monster (JM) and Japan Custom (JC) guitars and basses with the R
