  • Bernie Rico Jr.

    Hi,

do any of you guys have any experience with Bernie Rico Jr. guitars?

How do they compare to US Jacksons, in both play and feel?

I have been curious about his Hybrid series a well, which seem to be good value for the money?

    Guitars:

Bernie Rico Jr. Hybrid Vixen (blk)

Do you have the MONEY? Wow, I had a older handmade B.C. Rich Eagle Deluxe and til the neck went South (twist warp after 10 years WTF?) it was THE BOMB. I'm sure BRJR has AMAZING guitars. I'd kill for a nice Vixen, but money wise, no way, I'd put my family in starvation. I think my Eagle died because I bought it from a dude in "dryland U.S." and I'm in relatively "humid" North Carolina, and the years took a toll.

i have a vixen hybrid, the necks not for me, the back shape is great but the radius is flatter than i like at straight 16".
i was hoping for a more vintage feel , the back is but the fretboard is flat.

the build quality is solid, the tone and sustain of the wood and neck is great.

the binding is a little thin compared to a usa jackson, it's like most imports.
the frets are not jumbo more like medium height.

ultimately i'm not keeping it, but i would say the build quality is solid.
good setup playability weight and sustain.

and a Rico custom shop is

I have Rico Jekyll, it's a stellar guitar. Beats out my custom shop Jacksons and ESP's. The neck I would say feels very much like a soloist neck. The clarity and note definition is amazing, without a doubt the best guitar I have played/owned. I was soo impressed I ordered a Rico 7 string the next day. (should be done sometime soon)

Thanks for the feedback so far, i appreciate it

how different would the neck on the Hybrid as compared to my Jacksons? I really like the compound radius on them, but is a straight 16" radius all the way down that much of a difference?

And Trem, if you are selling your hybrid, i might consider a buy. what finish is yours in?

16" radius is your standard Ibanez.

the back shape of the Rico is not waffer thin like Ibanez, and not as wide feeling as either jackson or Ibanez.

It has a traditional "C" i think is the closest back shape with a flat fretboard radius.

but by comparison - I'm not really a fan of Jackson nor Ibanez necks, the Rico Back shape is closer to what i like, a tiny bit more round than my RR1.

I just took it out of the case for the second time since i got it, it does feel really good in the hand, i could live with it but i finally decided instead of compromising anymore i'm giving in and ordering a custom this year hopefully, with every spec exactly what i want.

The Vixen is black with the clear coated back of neck.

                sure if you want it,
I payed $1025 for it then bernie dropped the price on them a few weeks later, i think he got some hate mail for that because he put them back up in price again soon after, i know i passed along some hate myself.

he told me he's not making them anymore at least for awhile as he is going to be concentrating on his custom line, plus he said he has acoustics in the pipeline.

anyway, It's brand new so $799 plus what it cost to ship to you would be the price.

I have a custom shop model and it almost ruins me playing my other guitars put it that way. It plays way better and sounds way better than anything I have tried. But it is a top of the line high end build with custom woods and a custom headstock and custom pick ups from WB etc... On top of it all I put in a titanium sustain block!

Was very expensive but what a guitar.
