  • New bass day - tobias

I've wanted one of these for a LONG time and finally had a chance so had to jump on it. Plays absolutely great and sounds even better.

wow, man. Very cool. I've always loved the look of Tobias' but thought they were WAY too much bass for a hack like me

Thanks and it's definitely too much bass for me as well but it's soooooo nice. Luckily for me this one popped up a little under valued and I had some items I could trade or I never could have gotten it. Except for the pickups I can't find a mark on it, it looks brand new.

That is some nice looking wood on that fiddle. Looks like a real pro instrument.

The neck seems quite thin from that particular shot. Do they use carbon rods or something for extra stiffness?

Tobias - and now MTD - necks are actually very thin and are asymmetrical so the treble side is very very thin. That is why they are my favorite bass as I have very small hands and am rather short so with the small body and thin neck they are the most comfortable basses I have ever played. They are also reinforced with two truss rods instead of one. I think the cheaper ones have a 3 piece neck but most are 5 or 7, the one I just got is a 5 piece. Below is a picture of a cross section. Some of the carvin models use an asym neck, or at least they used to, but they aren't as thin.
