Making an exact copy of a guitar design by another manufacturer and saying "everybody does it" is like stealing somebodies song, changing the lyrics and saying it's not stealing because "There's only 12 notes".

Interesting M.O. there: 1) make ridiculous claims, 2) when people don't agree with you just say that you don't care what they think anyway, 3) declare thread dead when counter arguments are given without responding to them. Pure genius

yes, you are a real genius also for trying to ridicularize a stranger through the internet... yeah... genius material for sure hehe, chill dude, just kidding

My claims are ridiculous? whatever suites you dude, if you are happy, i'm happy

I dont care what other people think about Ran just because my life does not get worse or better because of that. Simple!!

i declared thread dead because... well, just because. This discussion has nothing more to evolve to lol

              cheers

I sure opened up a big can of worms here, I asked for opinions, and sure got em,This started a couple days ago I was watching a decapitated video, and noticed the guitar player had a RAN guitar, it was a BC rich ironbird body with a dean headstock .

My input would be that Ran looks like they have some skills, they could really create a dimension in the market by being a bit more creative with their design skills rather than exploiting the fact that they know enforcement of intellectual property would be tough. It is a shame, the stuff looks good.

I don't get the whole "The Europe guys can't afford the real deal,so they get a Ran" BS

Funnily enough,I once got a quote from Ran for a BCR Widow bass with the BCR "R" in the headstock, which they were more than willing to do!,but it was too close to BCR's price for a real one,NOT that I was going to buy one anyway.I would no more buy a Ran Forgery than a Las Vegas special

Big deal if the Europe guys cannot afford a USA Custom, get a secondhand one,or save up!

                      I waited 20 years for a USA B.C.Rich Widow bass,then I was given a KILLER deal on a brand new 2007 one,bought it,and a couple of months later a 1994 one appeared (Typical)

I now have 8 USA Through neck B.C.Rich basses and Shock horror,I am NOT rich and shit me,I'm from Europe

No, but the early Charvels were... If Charvel started out with that ugly-ass Sears headstock, there might not have been a company for Grover to buy from Wayne, let alone keep the doors open long enough for Randy to come and talk to him. :dunno:

I'm still pissed at ESP for their old M1 "Soloist clones." I remember when my buddy's store started carrying them, IIRC there were ONLY USA Jacksons at the time, I was like "Whoah, it looks like a Jackson, only it's made in Japan and it's CHEAPER!" (still more than I could afford at the time though) so at first I thought this was cool.

Who could blame me? Growing up in an era when any number of Les Paul copies (right down to the control placement and inlays, etc.) were available, and the Ibanez Destroyer, and Strat copies that actually had Strat headstocks, this was nothign out of the ordinary.

But for the first time I really "felt" something wrong about taking someone else's body shape and headstock design and putting your name on a cheaper version of it... Still won't buy an ESP today just because of that, even though they "innovated" their headstock to have the tip cut the opposite direction now.

And Washburn had their headstocks like that in the '80s!

I'm European too and I own a host of USA/Custom shop Jacksons, but I believe it's a matter of how much money you're willing to spend on an instrument and how much you feel it is worth. I don't find that there's anything particularly wrong with saying that you're not willing to spend $3500-4000 on a guitar that you know would only cost half in the states. Anyways, I don't own any Ran, in fact, I only own Jackson and Fender guitars.

some people are not willing to wait a gazillion years to get what they want. and i'm also one of those who dont want to pay 3000€ for a guitar.
