  • Nice little lawsuit era find...

Picked this thing up for $100.
1977/78 Memphis LP copy. The headstock cut is a spot on match to a Gibson.

Single piece Mahogany body with a Maple top that has a bit of birdseye to it.
A bit heavy, but nice sustain. Weighs in at close to 10 lbs.

It's got an LP Studio truss rod cover on it and a Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge.
Neck pup is shot as well as the selector, but the thing screams.

And now for some crappy cell phone pics.

Will take better ones once I get it all cleaned up.

My first electric was a Memphis setneck LP copy. Don't know whether it was mahogany or "mystery wood"; it was light as a feather. It actually played and sounded better than my first real LP, which was a '79 Standard that was a total dog. I sold that and kept the Memphis for awhile longer.

        This one is definitely Mahogany.
        Heavy, and sounds great unplugged.
The previous owner set it up with heavy gauge flat wound strings.
I had to replace the nut just to make it playable, but man what a surprise when I got it all strung up.
Needs a fret dress bad. Flat spots everywhere, but still playable.
This thing had been sitting in a closet for the last 15+ years.

That's one gorgeous hunk of mahogany! Nice score.

Nice find Rick! That one looks really clean. I love those. My buddy had a Memphis sunburst LP copy (bolt on) back in the 80's and I remember that it played really well for an "cost effective" copy. Unfortunately, he never took care of it and it ended up getting trashed.

My brother had a very similar guitar which he got from our uncle back in like '84. Nice score.
