  • Steve Stevens Washburn

Saw one out pawn shopping today pretty cool guitar, black, two slanted humbuckers and a floyd.Maple fingerboard, gold hardware.
Had the odd Washburn logo like on the Dime Washburns.
Silly price they had on it $499.00.
Did some looking and this one is an SS-40 poplar body Washburn pick ups and Washburn Lisc floyd looks like a Gotoh to me,Grover tuners.
The logo is called the monsters logo..
Nice chunky neck too pretty solid guitar overall.
Seems there is a bit of a collector market in these guitars.
I read Grover Jackson designed these while he worked at Washburn.
I'd give $200.00 if its got the original case so we'll see tomorrow.

These were a spin on the Hamer Centaura model that Steve was going to do with Hamer before he had some kind of falling out with them.. the model was going to be the SS III and then later was named the "Dinky" Californian and then became the Centaura when it was released.
The reverse slant pup Centauras like this are RARE.. most have an S-S-H configuration.

Went back and they would only come down to $469.00 which is still way to high.
If its still there 30 days and they come down some more I may give it some thought.
            No original case either bummer.

yeah they are a little rare. the ss80 with the frankenstein on it... those are the usa ss80 custom shop ones. they go for a nice chunk of chedda... pretty rare. the ss40's were nice but there price is about what they went for new back in the early 90's... 200 is a good deal.. 469 is a "i gotta have it dont care that i got raped" price IMO....

yeah those look like the typical junk "signature" player cheapo models that the "endorser" never played nor would he ever consider playing.

                          they're ugly, especially that logo.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

The Korean SS40s were not good. The SS80s, however, were made at the USA custom shop to Steve Steven's exact specifications and are almost identical to the Hamer SS3. Retail for SS80 was $1500, SS40 was $500. There were appoximately only 100 SS80s made....so they are rare birds -- only 60 of the SS100 Frankensteins. SS was only at Washburn for a year.
