  • Fender HM Strat -

I decided to seek out and buy one of these much talked about Fender HM guitars..."E" serial, Kahler Spyder, Dimarzio Super 3 bridge..AWESOME guitars! I was amazed at the incredible playability and massive tone, killer neck profile, very fast. I wish they would do a reissue of these, I'm sold!

Nice score! So please educate me on the "E" serial number and its significance.

thanks man! Well, as fas as I can gather from various sites, MIJ's were made as early as '85, but the bulk majority were made between '89 and '92....89' and '90 made in Japan, serials starting with sometimes "K" or "L"...later models assembled is USA using MIJ parts with "E" serial, being '91 and '92, then discontinued altogether. differences between the 2 also include the pup configurations.

E stands for Eighties. The first two numbers are the year.
Just saw a cherry 85 MIJ sunburst with the Kahler series 2 trem for $600.00.
Shit these guitars are coming out of the wood work lately.
These are awesome guitars that you could pick up 5 years ago for $150.00.
            Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I just looked this up on Fenders site and found that the E designates a USA made guitar. Then it gets a little weird. I have one with a serial number of
E821924. I bought this new and I know I bought it in 1988. Fender says E8+5 digits is a 1988 vintage. However the serial just before that is a E4+5 digits and spans from 1984-1987.

              Check it out

Japan serial prefixes were the same as the USA'S for a while.

Nice snag! My old singer had one of those (and still does), and I always thought they were great players.

right on, thanks man..I don't want to disclose how much I paid for it, might upset some! basically, the guy just had it in it's case for years and just wanted to get rid of it for an extremely reasonable price, with the Fender logo HSC..good deals are out there through persistence! thanks again

Yeha the "E" designation doesnt aways mean USA made. I have a Japanese 67 reissue strat that is an "E" serial as weel as an '89 Contemporary strat with an "E" serial. There were no full USA made HM strats. They were either completely mae and assembled in Japan or assembled in the US from Japanese parts. I had one in n;lack with red splatters. It was modded by the prvious owner to be a HH from the hss and he put a real floyd on it IIRC. It's een a few years so it mya have had a spyder on it. I never bonded with it. But i did yank out the 2 JB's that were in it and swapped them out for something else and sold it for what i paid for it. Which wasnt much. 150 i think.
Nice score they are great guitars

I had a Black single hum with rosewood board. That was a killer guitar. Sadly it was during my "trade for a new guitar at every opportunity" period, so it went the way of loads of other really nice stuff!
