  • Damn pawn shop finds

Was heading to work and was a bit early so I hit the PS and lo and behold.
    Had to bring it home.
ESP made mid 80's non tilt back pointy head Focus 1000/EMG 81.Pretty dusty and dead strings(go figure) but really a solid guitar.Love the color too.Figure 85/86 because it has a square jack plate.

I had that guitar in white with a 86 JB in it. I wish I still had it. While I was comfortable playing with it, the asymmetrical body shape always bugged me to look at. It sounded amazing though. I traded it in for my Model 5 which I still own. Now I know it's better to keep guitars!

OMG I have had so many of these over the years I lost count.I'll most likely sell it at the next show end of this month so I'll enjoy it for a little while.
I am always amazed how good these play. The 81 actually sounds beefy in this one with the dead strings.Have a set of 10's for it but too busy to work on it.

My first 'real' guitar was one in black. Begged my mother 3 months to get it when I was 15. ~$350 new in '85. Sold it after I got my first Charvel. Still wish I'd kept it. Nice find!

The Focus series was a great value for the money, even when new. I had an F-6000 that was the first guitar I ever bought new. Come to think of it, it's still one of the few new guitars I've ever owned. It was a good player but probably needed better pickups. I didn't know anything about that stuff back then.

I bought a hot pink one back in 86/87 and it got the hell played out of it.
Really wanted the USA Baretta(an 83) but it was $1000.00 so I got the Focus.

Got one like it. Good player. 86 model.
                  Frets are smaller than Jackson/Charvel.
Looks pink in sun light, little more red in indoor lighting.
                  Picked it up for $175

I used to own this one a few years ago. There was a spot on the fretboard where someone had taken a small phillips screwdriver and poked it. I can't remember which fret it was.

Oh wow... I had one just like that. EXACTLY like that, same color and everything... Except the pickup obviously.

I was playing a Striker of some kind at the time, around 1989, and I bought it from a friend of a friend for something like $75 if I remember right, the kid had ruined the neck making it thinner with a belt sander, and hit the truss rod.

Ended up scoring an "American" neck that came from Reb Beach, who gave a friend of a friend a "guitar" (really some thrice-painted HSS body and a Kramer American neck that didn't fit all that well) after a show. My Dad helped me plug the holes and re-drill it to fit the Focus body.

Cleaned it up today,re-strung it, fixed the corroded battery clip and gave it a set up.
Installed a fresh battery and plays great.
Sounds much better with all the power getting to the pick up.She is a screamer.
Old hard wired EMG 81 too.
