  • Starting work on a new project guitar.

I picked up a super cheap Squire because I wanted to have a guitar to do some mad doctor experiments on and try some stuff before I try it on one of my more "expensive" guitars. The guitar is a fixed bridge 1-Hum model.

Today, the last piece came in. It's a Duncan SHPR-2 P-rails Hot bridge. I ordered this pickup at the end of January and it just showed up today!

So the mods I'm doing are installing a 3 way switch for single/hum/p90 operation, leaving it single volume knob, and installing Sperzel locking tuners. I will be keeping the string trees in place because the nut was cut for them.

I'm thinking of getting some shielding materials for the pickup cavity and control cavity since I will be using the guitar near computers and plan on taking advantage of the 2 single coil tones. Think I'll have any luck getting the copper foil tape at a hobby store or hardware store? I want to get the project rolling and don't want to wait for something ordered online.

I'm also planning on attempting to paint a bullseye paintjob on it, hopefully this weekend, weather permitting. Any hints on the best way to do this? I was going to put a screw in the center and just use string to draw the circles on the mask at 1" intervals. Also quality isn't really anything I care about on the paint job, it's more a "just for fun" part of things. I just plan on roughing the finish in the unmasked areas with some light grit sandpaper and then was hoping to just rattlecan a black gloss on there. Any recommended brands for that?

I'm psyched to be working on this project.
