  • Westone guitar garage sale find!

Hey guys this is one of those things where you wish you were there! My sister and brother in law went to this garage sale looking for baby clothes. My brother in law, who also plays bass in my group, saw this red guitar sitting in the corner. He asked if it was for sale and the guy said he could have it if he wanted it... So he brought it to me for a setup and good going over. It was missing trem springs and the strings were shot. So I put some springs in it along with a new set of strings and good cleaning and setting up. All I can say is WOW! I can't believe how this guitar plays! It has one of the smallest, thinnist, flatest, fastest necks I've played. It's definately a shredders guitar. The pickups are weaker than I like but that was what was in when it was made. I found it in a Westone catalog and it sold new for $675. Check this baby out and keep in mind... it was FREE!

I fuggin hate you because this stuff never happens to me and I do scope out the local garage sales frequently. Nice score.

I had that same guitar, or similar, except mine was a solid black body with no binding. Yes, the neck was very fast on it and the frets were pretty small.

I have no idea on the worth of Westones so I looked around and found one that's listed for $299 plus shipping. Looks really close to the model you have but has 22 frets, standard HS and looks like a solid color body. Is that a solid or ply body?

Nope, unless they pay you to take it off their hands.

It's a solid wood body. It actually appears to be mahogany to me but I could be wrong.

Not sure what year that is, but if it's a Matsumoku, then you really lucked out. It looks a little too new to be a Mat, but still looks pretty damn cool, especially for free.

By the way, how do you like the Beast? I just got one for $199, and so far, I think I got a hell of a deal.

I thought all the Westones were Matsumoku's?

Either way, free is a good guitar.

Sadly, the legendary Matsumoku guitar factory shut down in 1987 if I remember correctly. After that time, all of the brands made there either disappeared completely, or moved production to Korea. At the time, the Korean factories weren't at the level they are today, and many of the guitars were less than stellar. I had a Korean made Aria Pro II Excel superstrat, and while it was solid enough, it was very heavy, and did not play well. I got rid of it pretty quick.

Thats not a Mat Westone no neck plate.A friend of mine collects these and that came straight from him.
Nice guitar tho for the price.BTW they used left over trems, tuners and necks from Matsumoko so the hardware is of good quality.
My friend likes these later ones too and he says they are great players.
                            Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I keep finding way overpriced junk at the garage sales here. I am not paying $300 for your First Act guitar, dumba$$!
