Hey, if you want a 50's Strat you are welcome to it man, I prefer mine with the new-fangled stuff.

I think there's room for both types of Strat in the Fender line... Progressive, somewhat modernized versions of the classic, and then the "same thing they've been making for 50+ years" too.

Agreed. Its the MIM line that has a bunch of weird in-betweeners that don't make much sense to me - like the vintage style body, 21 frets and then the new 2-point bridge.

I loved the MIM Deluxe Players Strat I had, especially with its 12" radius... I just couldn't figure out why it only had 21 frets.

Fender's got a long history of that. The first Fender I owned was a wonky Kahler Floyded 62 RI - HSS, Recessed Kahler Floyd, 21 frets - goofy...

it's because they used to play drop B in the 60's

I read an article/interview with the guy who did the American Standard, he said "It's got 22 frets... I don't know what guys do up there but it's got them" or something like that. :ROTF:

I got by on mine just fine, even had heavy gauge strings on it for D/Drop C tuning, but I sure do like to meedly on the higher frets a bit, even if I still do suck. :ROTF:
