maybe this has been done before, but what was your first guitar?

Mine was a 69 Teisco E110 that my mom bought my older sister for Christmas from Sears. It sat in her closet for years, not being interested in learning, then somehow it ended up with me. I never did anything with it other than maybe pretend I was Ace or Jimmy Page, but then in college when I met a couple of guys that played, I started learning on that "axe". MY GOD IT WAS HORRIBLE! believe it or not it had the same strings on it that were on it when I got it from my sister back in 1975. After a month or so I bought another guitar, a Westone something or other, and used the Teisco in a guitar throwing contest a local guitar store held. Looking back, I don't think I'd ever throw any guitar no matter how horrible I thought it was. Well, there must be something close to karma, maybe "guitarma", because on the first throw, I put myself in first place, and the guitar held up remarkably well (or so I thought). By the time everyone had thrown and they were allowing the survivors to make a second throw, I was in third place. I really wanted that squire strat, so I opted to throw again. Somehow the guitar broke apart while making the second throw, badly cutting my palm. Didn't win the strat, and couldn't play anything for about 3 weeks.

**EDIT*** found a pic of one. don't you just love that pic gaurd?

This is it - a Sears catalog bolt-on LP copy, circe 1978. The pickups were actually single coils inside humbucker covers.

Mine was a POS Gibson copy semi hollow electric. WOW. That action was as high as the national debt. I hacked the pcs from it and made my "Mathias Jabs" copy explorer in wood shop. Fun while it lasted though.

yeah, I remember I could stick my whole fingers between the stings and my fretboard. I remember going home after being shown a couple of simple bar chords on my friend's guitar and not being able to play them on mine.

The picture on the "Disco Sucks" is of Howard the Duck, decked out like Ted Nugent. I painted it myself. The "canvas" was the cardboard insert from a toilet seat cover.

Mine was a $25 garage sale Harmony. It looked like a Jaguar or Jazzmaster. I never thought to change the strings...who knows how old they were. But I did manage to learn some Mel Bay barre chords nonetheless.

My beloved RG250. I recently gave it away to a cousin who is learning to play. The single coils were kind of blah and the pole pieces were misaligned by a half inch, but the humbucker had a great sound. That single-locking bridge was a real pain. It chewed through strings like they were linguine. I had it set up for dive-only, and played it as a hardtail with the bar off. Diving with the bar always opened a pandora's box of tuning issues!

                  Here's mine:

I changed the pieces the strings go through on the bridge to chrome eventually. Looked killer, had an awesome neck.

Sold it to my buddy when I needed funds. Now it has one BCR humbucker in the bridge, and one volume knob. That thing's been through hell and back. I should definitely try to get it back.

                    Some cheap strat copy.

my first "good" guitar was my Model 6, which has stayed with me to this day. It was white, but when I chewed through the finish I had it refinned in Ferrari Red.
                    I like EL34s.

A copy of a Fender mustang FWIW.

Hohner Les Paul copy. Suprisingly good and it got me started so I'm grateful to it.
I bought it because it "looked like Slash's guitar" so I suppose I owe him one too for some sort of influence.

Ever since that guitar its been 20 years of gas-crazed gear whoring and I've loved every second of it.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

Mine was an old 1959 Gibson Les Paul, In the '60s I traded it to Jimmy Page for a brand spanking new Hondo, I believe he still has it...

Purchases a Kramer Striker ST200 brand new at Guitar Center in San Jose. Sweet plywood goodness with a single locking FR II. Still have it and although it is playable, it sounds like doo doo and is relegated to storage status.
