That's because it was Steve Lynch's guitar.

That's right. It was a bit of a shock when I went to see about a Carvin guitar in a classified ad, and Steve Lynch opened the door!
I seem to remember that there was a Soloist that another JCFer scored from him.

Sweet Carvin's guys! Here's my 3 wise men. I just had the CS6 built and got it yeterday. M22SD in the bridge and she screams! I sold all my PRS guitars once I played my first Carvin. Great guitars.

              Nice CS6.
              Like that 84 V220 too.
How does the reissue V220 compare to the original V220 neck profile, Feel, weight, sustain and tone?

The prudes may snub them, but I don't care.
              I dont need furniture.
If its tough, shreds, and screams, Its all good.
If it gets jacked, I'll get another one.
              And rock that sucker.

Honestly...... the 84 blows the new version away. The depth and clarity is so much more defined on it. It could be the Birdseye Maple body and neck along with the Brass nut and vintage pickups? The 2010 model is darker. It is good on it's own but the comparison is not close. I will pickup another 80's V220 when the time is right. They absolutley smokes! A superb tone machine.

                The 84 weighs 9lbs 14 ounces.
                The 2010 weighs 7lbs 10 ounces

The 84 accepts alternate tunings and string gauges better than the 2010. You have to be more considerate with the 2010. It muddies up fast when not matched well. Thus far GHS Boomer's 10.5-48's in Eb are a perfect match for this guitar and pickup combo. 11-52's in C# was good too but the pickups lacked detail. The higher tuning, with the right gauge, sings better.

All in all the 84 kills. It must be the all Maple guitars with the Brass nuts that sound so good to me. I have a 1980 Gibson Explorer E2, 1 of 12, with a Maple/Walnut/Maple/Walnut/Maple body and a Brass nut and it sings as well. It weighs a staggering 12.5 lbs! (thats why they only made 12)

                  I was afraid of that.
I've had a few thru-neck Carvin's, still have two, and they just don't sing like the old set necks.
I do believe the old pups sound better.

I'm still on the lookout for a black, early 80s, set neck DC100 with the Schaller wrap around.

Very cool! Love the blue one.
Here's my new 7-string. Got it about a month ago.

                        Now I like that one.
Has a retro thing going with racing stripe.
Nice and clean. Not overly blinged out and all.
What body wood did you go with? Vintage yellow color?

All of these guitars rule. I've got my eye on a Bolt at a local store, but can't swing it

Vintage yellow over maple body with mahogany/maple tung oiled neck. I kinda wanted an old-school look similar to a vintage B.C. Rich.

That's a beauty! I'd love a sixer like that - sevens scare the hell out of me!
I thought of BC Rich when I saw it, although to really get the "old BC" vibe, you're gonna need about two dozen switches and knobs on there!

7s used to scare me many years ago! LOL I owned an Ibanez 7 for a little bit, then a Scheter 7 a few years back. The Carvin neck is a nice mix between the two; not as thick as the Schecter and not as thin as the Ibanez. I also figured it might weigh more since I decided on the maple body, but it's only about 9 pounds and really not too bad.
