So Im cruisin the web, doing my normal searches for certain guitars Im interested in acquiring. One of which is an early 90s(?) Alvarez electric guitar, HSS config, vintage style trem, white finish, maple board and Dana style headstock. The body also looks like the Dana scoop series but without the "scoop". I have no idea what the model is exactly but the image of this guitar has been burned into my memory since I was 15 and smashed the one I originally had, so I know what Im looking for if theres a pic available.

Anyhow, this specific guitar is important to me because it was the 2nd guitar I ever had and out of stupidity I smashed it 10 years ago and have regretted the split second I did it(I used to have BAD anger issues when I was younger). Ive been looking for a replacement for 10 years and now Im pretty sure Ive got one coming through a local music store Ive been doing business with for years(incidentally, the store from which the original was purchased).

Weve worked out a deal for them to buy the the one I found in exchange for my Predator. Is the Predator worth more? Yes, but I cant pass up this opportunity to right a wrong I committed against myself thats left me a little empty inside for 10 years.

I loved that guitar so much and destroyed in a way that could only be described as psychotic(the guitar wasnt what I was mad at, it was just the closest thing to me when the rage hit). It really hurt my dad too(I did not break it on him), he bought it for my 15th birthday when money was real tight(again, I was a bit of a douche when I was younger).

Anyhow, it was a great playing, reasonably well made, sturdy instrument for what it was(somewhere between those Fenders that had the neon "Strat" logo and the DX series Jacksons in quality) and looked cool to boot. I cant wait to have it home!

    Pics when it gets here.

I know what you mean. A while back I foolishly sold my first guitar to a dildo, (not for a dildo, have plenty of those), and he in turn fucked it up and sold it to somebody else. It pisses me off when I think about it. Good luck with your purchase!

Do you plan on showing your father the guitar? He might like the fact that you found a replacement. Glad to hear that things are better for you now.

Yeah, I always show him my latest ax purchases, just like he shows me his latest computer purchases.

There might be one of these at a pawn shop by me. Didn't impress me enough to buy it. Maybe yours is better. Please post pics when you get it.

Yep, I think it looked like that only in red. Can't remember the fretboard material. I'll try to take another look at it tomorrow.

Cool, the closest thing I could find was Westone had a Dana series without scoops shortly before they became Alvarez. Maybe these were a Westone item rebranded as Alvarez.
Gotta have the white one though.

I think I saw a red one recently in a pawn shop IIRC the price was in the 100 buck range.
I had a high end Dana scoop that had the block inlays and the bendmaster trem and I loved how it played.
If I see one I will buy it.Always loved them.
                  Really? well screw Mark Twain.

There was a black scoop model here in a pawnshop not too long ago, pretty sure its still there, it was in the $300- $400 range IIRC.

Heres a scan of a pic of the original. Luckily my dad at some point scanned the original pic as I scoured the folks house the other day to scan myself but couldnt find it.

As I stated before, even Google didnt lend much insight as to the details of the guitar. I found a direct email for the designer of the series, Dana Sutcliffe, so I asked him directly if he had any info for me. Heres his email back to me:

                        Daniel
That was a entry level Dana guitar. Made in Korea and modeled after the westone dana's in body style. The price point in the early 90's was 399.00 retail. If my name was on the head stock then it was an authorized instrument. After 1993 Alvarez made many entry level instruments using my body shapes and not putting my name on the Headstock. You guitar was more than likely made in 1992.

                        Dana
                        Master luthier

This was cool, as he answered my question in less than 24 hours. So now I know a little more about it.

                            PICS!!

Just got done cleaning the fret board, installing the JB and stringing it up. In addition to that, I set the intonation, shimmed the neck(it needed some back angle so I could have the saddle height screws not sticking me in the palm of my hand), lowered the middle p/u all the way down, added chrome knobs, and adjusted the truss rod. It plays great and sounds great. It reminds me a lot of a Strat in how the neck feels. It has a 25.5'' scale. Im tickled pink with it so far, though its going to need sealed tuners, and roller trees at some point. Anyhow, heres the pics.
