Now thats what Im talking about. Simple beauty. This is very similar to one I used in the studio a few months ago. Even around the same year. Nice guitar.

I prefer my original T-Tops. Not great for high gain brutz, but sweat and soulful.

yeah when i got mine the Shaws were already long gone...
so i knew i wouldn't hurt anything by putting in the EMG's..

Awesome guitar! I also put a TP-6 on my all mahogany LP Studio a few years ago, as well as EMGs (85 bridge/81 neck) and love it.

I sold my t-tops for $300. A couple friends thought i was nuts for taking an original lp apart and selling the pickups after two days of owning it

Shaws really weren't Shaws by 1987. I have a set from 1983 and already the by then Gibson was messing up the formula.

Whatever floats your boat. I have several LP's all with different flavors of pickups so I don't feel the need to hack one up. My high output LP is my 96 Classic Premium Plus. I have zebra 496R/500T set with push/pull CTS pots to split the coils.

The T-Tops in my 77 Custom nail Thin Lizzy tones like Boys are Back in Town and that's what I was after when I bought it.

That's awesome. Just got a '87 Custom myself!

Do you guys know if the original pickups would have been Shaws? '87 seems to be the transition year, and there are no clear signs on mine.
