  • NGD - Suhr modern

My quest for a Modern is over after about two years or something. My standard, wonderful though it was, has been replaced by something much more in line with my style...

So happy NGD to me (although I've had it a few days, I've been "busy")...

    Modern Carve top, reverse headstock.
    Green drip metallic.
Basswood body with 3/4" maple top.
    Vulcanised maple neck and fretboard.
    No inlays.
    Gotoh floyd recessed.
    Matching headstock.
    Sperzel locking tuners.
    Modern eliptical neck profile.
Some fancy switching on the 5 way and split coils push pull.
    Aldrich/FL/Aldrich pups.

Sounds huge, plays amazing. An astonishingly good guitar.
The best I've owned and most likely ever played.
Dont get me wrong, I love my Jacksons and you'll get my Soloist custom out of my cold dead hands, but this thing just takes the piss.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

    sick paint, grats.

i'll have to look up "vulcanized" for neck finish, not heard that one before?

It's a Vacuum heat treatment. Basically its roasted at high heat without any air so it doesnt catch fire. Makes it impervious to moisture. The neck will never warp or bend out of shape. Makes it super stable.
Suhr reckon it even removes the need for a truss rod but theres still one in there.

Takes some getting used to looking at it though but the neck is smoother than Roger Moore and plays wonderfully.

Thanks. I love green but strangely, have never owned a green guitar until now.
Looks much better in the hand then in pics too. And the Vulcanized maple neck seems much darker in person.
Like really dark brown polished stone. It looks freaky until you play it, then it just feels like really high quality maple.

Very nice. Some day I hope to own a Suhr Modern or Anderson Drop Top.

I also think the paint rocks. I like the textured look.

What do you not like about the necks? I think they're one of the best features.

I can't put my finger on it, I just know that I've never played one where I felt like "yes I need to buy this", and I've played a few of them at Matts Music over the last couple of years.
I wish I did, I 've played a couple that I would've loved to own.
I don't like Anderson necks either

I do find that strange as they offer the whole range when it comes to neck profiles and of course, they'll do any profile if you spec a guitar out.
Suhr necks are godlike in my opinion. I'm sure you'll find one to suit if you keep playing them.

This one has a profile called modern eliptical which is very similar to a speed neck on a KV2 for instance and not a million miles away from a Soloist. I had the Reb Beach profile on a standard too and that was also very comfortable. Like a C shape on a strat but better and way smoother.
