Hey all, I just got some progress pics back on a new strat project. A local luthier, Steve Benford (Benford Guitars http://benfordguitars.com/) is doing this for me. I had purchased an 8/4 60"x9" wide Koa board about 8 years ago and changed my mind on what I intended to do with it. It was just too crazy of a piece to just do any project. So I sat on it. Well I have known Steve for years and I finally showed him the board and we came up with some ideas. I had the board resawed, purchased a chunk of brazilian rosewood for a neck blank, and dropped them with steve. Here are the first shots of the body. I am way stoked!

Wow, the grain makes it look like the body is carved!
If I had a slab of wood like that, I would do a S-S PU, 1vol configuration and throw a couple of Hotrails in there, just to show off as much of the top as possible!Until you get weaned off the boobie, you are going to have to do what the wife wants too. -Rsmacker

Thanks guys, I am going to see it tomorrow and make some decisions on bridge and pick-ups. I cant wait to see it and the neck!!! For some reason I am having issues with the pics not showing up. They appear to be there now. We will see..."I have so much gayness at times. Right now I am thinking... string through tune-o-matic, single humbucker, volume knob only. The other option is hum, single with a sustainer??? I will have to see. Just wait till you see the neck blank. Its ridiculous!"I have so much gayness at times. So far the neck is still a squared blank. We went over bridge ideas and pick-up configurations, as well as, neck shape and radius. I have a questions for you guys though. I had decided on a tuneomatic string through, but with that comes an angle neck with tall pick-up rings, or recessing the tuneomatic in about 3/8" and straightening the neck/ lowering the pick-ups. The other option is a custom bridge that he makes out of ebony. Any opinions???
Here is a pic of his custom bridge and a basic layout with a stock neck sitting for placement.

Screw mobileme! Everytime I log out of my mobileme account the links go dead. All but one. It makes no sense. I switched them over to photobucket. WTF!"I have so much gayness at times. I'd say go with the custom bridge and defintely stick with a humbucker, single coil routing.
If it was up to me I'd go with a vol, tone, 3 way selector toggle. Get a nice high output bridge pup and coil tap it with a push/pull on the volume knob. Covers most bases as I see it.
And an ebony fretboard would go nicely with the bridge and black hardware too.
All looking good so far. Interested to see how this one pans out.
As soon as I find the epic timber I'm after, I'm going to put my own project together. All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.
