Here is a Gibson Explorer that was originally natural mahogany. The customer wanted the guitar refinished like Matthias Jabs guitar from the Scorpions.
I just got done playing this for a while. I love older Gibsons because I have not been too impressed with the attention to detail lately. BUT.......This thing sounds awesome. Straight into a Marshall TSL60 and I was in Gary Moore tone heaven. I have always liked the Gibson pickups and this thing is just a monster. I might have to look for an explorer - or better yet maybe a Kelly.
Killer paint! I went through a Scorpions kick in the eighties and I would've killed for that guitar. I couldn't afford one so I bought a Flying V instead. I never could figure out the $600 price difference for essentially the same guitar. Maybe it was just the dealer being a douche.
I still keep practicing though.... Mostly because I hate my neighbors.-MakeAJazzNoiseHere
Very nice! I seem to recall Matthias explaining that he didn't want his two explorers to look the same, so he put the tape on one of them so people would realize he had two That must have been in the early days when he and Rudolf had less than a hundred guitars
