    I'd go with a full-sizer. I had a 3/4 when I started, and it sucked. Yeah, I was 13 and my parents bought me a 3/4 sized guitar.

Anyway, I'd look into the Squier "Affinity" series. I needed a bass to just mess around with, so my wife bought me one of those "gig packs" for Xmas this past year. Just make sure to do a once-over prior to purchase, just to make sure it's in good shape and you didn't get a lemon.

Honestly, I'm very happy with my Affinity. After a minor setup and some work with the string action, it plays very nicely, especially for a value-priced instrument. It's a good enough instrument that even after you've been playing for a little bit of time, you won't find yourself feeling like your guitar is a piece of crap...

I would go full size also. I am giving lessons to a 10 year old and he is doing fine with a full size warlock. If you still think a micro is the way to go, a shop I frequent has a micro Ibanez thats nice looking. Haven't played it though.

I have put a fender mini in quite a few kids hands and that model has worked very well for them. I do a setup on them and string them up with 11s. They are fixed bridge and make a good 'test the water' guitar. The next step I usually take with them is a fender mustang or jaguar because they are 22 or 24" scale. I have have a couple I loan out to friends for their kids to try it out on and maybe 1/4 end up getting their own with the rest giving it up in a few weeks.
