  • PRS Experts: Can somebody help me identify this?

So recently I got a new job, and I've been checking out some guitars that I'd add to my "soon to be mine" list. One of which was that Edwards I spoke about in the previous thread, and another is a PRS I found at a music store. It's a beautiful trans-red, 22 fret, set neck beast, with Duncan's, (dunno which), and I love how it plays. I don't know how it sounds, since the shop doesn't have many amps that "fit" my genre(s) of music, but I know I love how it plays, and sound could be changed in the long run.

So I'm playing this, and I'm like "AH MAN THIS IS AWESOME OH MAN IT LOOKS GREAT AH MAN!" but I'm scared because:
    1. I don't know what model it is
    2. The logo has been removed.

Why in the hell it has been removed, I cannot tell you, but it's a VERY neat job. The headstock paint matches the body, and there's no marks or scratches. The serial number on the back reads: "I 54368," but I don't know PRS language to know what this means.

All in all, I'm just asking if anyone knows if it's a real PRS, and what model it is, and if anyone does know, could I get another PRS logo for it? If anyone can help out, it'd be GREATLY appreciated

Here are the pics, sorry about the cellular telecommunications quality photography:

Looks like a 2001 Standard 22. The duncan pick ups are not stock and I don't know why someone would take of the nice PRS logo. Most American made PRS's that are traded in to music stores come with ohsc. You might ask about the case because a lot of times the build sheet and tools are with it. Check into it because theres a lot of knock offs on ebay that look just like the real deal. Good luck. Oh if it is real, you'll like it. You can't go wrong with an American PRS. Here's a link to some pics you can compare. Also Check out PRS's site for specs. http://www.guitar-museum.com/item.php?ID=29866

Thanks! My Ibanez that was there was supposed to come with a case and trem bar, (the guy that owned it and traded it there told me this), but I never got is...
All I'm really trying to find out is if it's real or a fake. If it's a fake, I have absolutely no problem buying it, but I don't want to be playing a real price

Thanks for the links man! I'm heading there tomorrow to get a price and hopefully better pics

Edit: Another thing, do you or anyone reading this know where I could get logos for guitars? I understand places selling them is unethical, but I don't want to send it to Mike Learn or PRS to get the logo redone.

It looks real to me, I believe rattlehead is right, i think prs serial numbers start with the year of manufacture.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL

To me it feels like an inlay. I can try and post you a pic if you'd like.

Usually aren't the logo's just cut out of .20 mil material and laid under the clear coat? They clear coat the hell out of them to make them fell "set-in". Maybe it had a refin or headstock repair at one time?

i have an '06 CE24 with the raw maple headstock. the logo is slightly raised. i had a '93 CE24 with the black headstock for a long time and it had a raised gold logo.

Are the serial numbers usually written on in paint marker? Something looks funny to me, but I've never owned a USA PRS

yes. on older models they are written with a paint pen. i have/had bolt-on models, so the serial is stamped in the neck plate. the number looks legit, as does the handwriting style. from those pics, it appears to be real, minus a logo. why somebody would scrape the logo off is a mystery, but i doubt the guitar is fake....

Thank you for the confirmation I was un sure with the serial number if it was a fake without a logo... Either way it's a faaaaaaaabulous guitar

I don't think it had a refin, but maybe a headstock repair would make sense. I gotta go back and get better pics. Hopefully I'll go today.

at the very least, I would beat them up on pricing since it doesn't have a logo. Maybe you can work a better deal.

+1 half the reason to buy a PRS is because you won't lose your $$$ on resale. not having the PRS logo WILL hurt the resale significantly. PRS is still a desirable guitar that many players aspire to own. they want to be able to "show off" that they have one. no logo = less bragging rights. beat the dealer with that, and get that sucker for a steal!!

The serial number looks right to me also. Hell the guitar looks right. I read on another forum that a guy was cleaning his headstock and the P in the logo came off. Someone said that some logos are under the clear coat, some are inlays under the clear coat and on certain models the logo was on top of the finish. I think it was My Les Paul forum.
