  • 1979 Les Paul Custom

Been on the hunt for a late 70's early 80's Les Paul and came across this baby for $1800 the other week.

It came with some Dimarzio pickups that were a little too vintage sounding for me so I swapped them out this evening for two Jackson J90C humbuckers. This is meant to be a hard rock Gibson and those two humbuckers work so well with that mahogany body.

Plenty of output and great tone too!

Looks nice but the color balance on that pic is not so good. Is it a dark cherry red or black?

          Thanks!

I know that real Les Paul purists will scoff at the idea of the Jackson J90C but it has a tight and focused tone that works great for hard rock. The fact that mine are the US made with chrome adjustable pole pieces makes it look just like a vintage PAF even up close!

The bridge is F spaced and 16.8 ohms will the neck comes in at 16.2 ohms.

That is serious high output no? LOL!

Why? Gibson has the Dirty Fingers that's even hotter.

The 500T in my Classic Premium Plus is less at 15.5K, but it has three ceramic magnets.

What model DiMarzio pickups were in the guitar?

A DP-103 and another unknown PAF vintage style in the neck.

That is a sweet guitar and it sounds like it was priced right... Anything I ever see that is more than 5 years old is all scratched up and is called "vintage" and sells for more than a new one, and here you find an honest 70's guitar for a reasonable price.

Please, don't ruin it with a middle pickup.

Here's here younger sister - 2003, which was also the year my younger son was born. Wine Red/Oxblood - not sure if the plastic will stay black, but the knobs will definitely become top hats.
