  • Best Les Paul copy

Other than Epiphone, in your opinion which guitar manufacturer makes the best Les Paul standard copy in terms of playability and craftsmanship? Xaviere, Jay Turser, Agile, Etc Note: hardware can always be upgraded.

I used to have an El Degas, is white with gold harware. Really nice sound and it played great, better than any Epiphone I've tried. There are still a few of them around.

I have a Stellar Mercury 002 that I put a set of P-rails in. It's the best sounding guitar I have. It doesn't have the thin speed neck on it but it plays fast enough. I gave $200 bucks for it used and the guy I bought it off of put a set of Grover tuners in it. I have since put the pickups out of it in a beater guitar. An Austin LP copy that sounds great aswell.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

I have owned Gibsons, and I'm very happy with my Aria Pro II. (77 LS450)
Like most manufacturers, Matsumoku made budget beginner, intermediate, and pro quality guitars.
If you stay with the upper end of the line, built in Japan by Matsumoku, from late 70s thru mid 80s, you'll be good to go.

Neal Schon played Aria Pro II PEs.

I replaced the circuit board with CTS pots, and it got a new Switchcraft jack.
Well worth the $350 I have in it.
                      Models
The prudes may snub them, but I don't care.
                      I dont need furniture.
If its tough, shreds, and screams, Its all good.
If it gets jacked, I'll get another one.
                      And rock that sucker.

Yeah I can't tell you how many of those PCB boards I have in my junk box. Some day they will go ape shit and want to buys these so I have a gold mine started.
Aria Pro II's are nice guitars I agree.

Tokai. A Love Rock with Bare Knuckles is magical.
But if money is no problem and if you consider it a Les Paul copy, an ESP Eclipse 1.

But seeing that Hondo... dayum, son!

                            This.

Those that were descent (Hondo, Aria Pro II, and might as well add Orville by Gibson) were made ages ago and are not easy to find. And when you do find them people think they can charge as much as a Gibson for them.
