  • WTH, Epiphone?

I went out to get picks and string about half an hour ago and one of the shops had what appeared to be an Epiphone Les Paul in Trans green for the top and trans blue for the back. In addition, it had a floyd and an intricate dragon inlay. The headstock didnt say Epiphone, nor was it the typical shape, just the "e" symbol and Les Paul signature between the tuners. It also had abalone binding on the body. Ive got pics but the cable for my phone isnt handy, Ill post pics in a while.

Right off hand, does anybody know what the hell this could be. Its a great looking guitar and has a nice weight to it.

Ive owned the Turser model previously The HS shape is different, though looking at your link, the inlay is exactly the same, but not in the same spot. The Turser inlay goes to the 20th, the Epi inlay goes to the 19th. This is perplexing.

Chinese crap knock-off? Found something similar doing a google search.

Thanks Toe. This is what Im wanting to know. I wish they had a pic of that HS on that page. Thats the only thing Im having an issue with at the moment. Either its blatant Epi knock off, or someone spent good money changing the HS.

Could also be an epiphone custom shop. LOL

Found a similar one at harmony central, does seem to be a chinese copy, but they said the quality is pretty good and on par with epiphone.

Plug that bad boy in and if it sounds good !

The more I look at it the more the wood bugs me. Definitely not bookmatched. Lol

If you notice they want $499 for it, It isnt worth $300 to me if its fake, quality aside. The shop in question looks down their nose at you if you try to talk them down or bring to light that something isnt what what they think it is, kind of like GC. I was just in there for picks anyhow.

Anybody else notice they have Kirk Hammett's Boris Karloff as "The Mummy" ESP guitar in the background on the right hand side?
There are only 2 of those in existence, and both are Kirk's personal guitars (the 2 have different inlays.) Kirk owns the rights to that image as well.
That would make that a fake for sure, so I wouldn't trust anything from that shop....
