As already said, it needs a stinger. I think it would make it look sharp and professional. Take it to a pro if you don't feel comfortable doing it.

I wasn't sure... You wouldn't believe how many of those things I've seen on Ebay lately!

Agreed on the stinger. I would find a way to make that happen on a guitar like that.

Other than that. All I can say is Wow! You have some huge brass balls my friend. I don't think I could have started cutting on that finish on a guitar in that price range.

            Cheers,
            Chris

Well, I did a nice stinger today. It came out pretty nice! I left just a 1/16" inch of black and clear next to the headstock binding so I wouldn't worry about it delaminating from the headstock face. Then I put the last coat of finish on the neck, including the newly-uncovered stinger area, and the neck is looking good.

Then, my luck ran out... When I had the guitar upside down the tape got pressed onto the front of the guitar, and when I removed it, a chunk of finish came off the front of the guitar on the binding next to the neck/pickup switch, and it went downhill from there... I see a refinish in my future.

Bonus lemonade from lemons: I will be losing the pickguard, which I REALLY wanted to do, but since they drill into the body binding and it was kind of dented there it wasn't going to happen without some work. Well, now it's going to happen.

I can't believe how many times I masked that off (at least 10) and the last fucking time I didn't get the tape de-stickied enough and it took finish up with it.

And no, I'm not finishing it myself, I don't have the time or place or equipment to do it, so I'm going to pay a pro, which I probably should have done to begin with, but I guess I'm no worse off.

I blame you guys because not one of you bastards said "No, fuck no, quit while you are ahead, man!"

Yeah, I had the PG off when I installed the pickups and it looked hot. I really didn't want to have to put that pickguard back on there... Now I won't!

Hybris => nemesis. Seriously though, what you did with the next looks pretty impressive. I think that when I reach the age where I have no ambitions or hopes left (and other people start golfing), I want to build my own guitar.

I'd like to change my alternate title to:

                      "Oh, SON OF A BITCH!"

You know, I'm tempted to get it sprayed a color now, instead of black.

Too bad--looks great with the zebra pups. If you paint it you might have to swap them out.

All of those I had known about (had a 77 LP Custom) just thought they were still doing that until I went to Gibby's site and saw that they changed back to a mahogany neck, my bad! Nice job though! looks real good!

I've actually exchanged email with Mike about it. Just black, though. His quote was more than reasonable but I'm not sure what I want to do. Ebay with no reserve has crossed my mind...

Well with what you've done to the neck now, you're not gonna get back what you paid for it. Sucks to hear about the stripped paint though. I say send it to Mr. Learn and fix this baby up nicely.
