Historic, my friend. If you really need to have Gibson put on the Grovers, get the Jimmy Page model. If you can put them on yourself, anything but an R0 will work. You didn't say P90 or humbuckers, or goldtop vs. burst.

I know were talking Gibson here, but I just actually weighed my Epi LP Standard, and it weighs in at 9.5 to 10 lbs.. Don, how much would a LP weigh without any weight relief?

        Sorry Twitch, just found this.

They can weigh up to 15lbs (as found in the 70s). It's all about the sourcing of the wood. In the "golden age" of Les Pauls, they were between 8.5 and 9.5 pounds and solid. As good wood was used up, and the Norlin years came where the cost of the wood was more important than the quality of the wood, some really heavy examples showed up. Around 1982-1984 they started the weight relief, so chances are many of the tunes from the 80s and 90s were done with a weight relieved LP.

The weight varies on Les Pauls and its not just by era. My heaviest Les Paul is a 2003 Midnight Manhattan Blue LP at 12.4 lb! My Norlin era 74 LPC with brass covers (Randy Rhoads style) is lighter at 10.5 lb but still too heavy for many LP fans. Bunch of wusses My thinking is that if Rhoads could play a Norlin era LPC on tour night after night no one should be complaining about the weight of their LP

Yeah but Randy was kind of built like Bruce Lee. Tiny but wiry as hell. Hell he survived sack time with Sharon, I'm sure a 12lb Les Paul is like nothing after that...
