  • Old cheap ass guitar day

I remember these old Japanese shredders from back in the day.
    85 Yakima strat.
Decent quality guitar really USA Kahler Flyer and Grover tuners.
Not sure but looks like a Gotoh pick up of some sort coil tap push /pull vol pot.
Yakima is a well renowned acoustic guitar for the most part from what I have read.
I thought this one looked pretty cool so I laid down $80.00 and took it home.
Cleaned up nicely no frozen parts on the Kahler so I call it a win.

    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Holy shit man. That looks identical to a Lado Hawk a friend of mine owned. Chrome Kahler Flyer, same exact pickup, same shaped electronics cavity, glossy maple neck. Is the neck somewhat chunky on it?

Yeah zeegs a tad bigger than a model series Charvel neck.
Frets needed a level so did that and re-crowning right now.
Need to search a bit on the pick up to find out just what it is, has brass bottom plate so thats why I think its a Gotoh.
The 7th fret double dots reminds me of the old Hagstrom's.

Frets leveled and crowned, pick up tweaked and intonation set.Damn killer $80.00 guitar for sure.
The pick up is brutal!! Very ballsy with tons of ceramic bite.Very much like and un-potted DiMarzio super D.
Kahler flyer stays in tune perfectly too.
        Really? well screw Mark Twain.

If I remember correctly, the pickup in the Lado was a Gotoh. I'd bet that it's basically the same guitar, from the same factory with a different logo stuck on it. Any idea what the body is made of?

Body is plywood laminate but not all that heavy bout the same as a USA poplar Jackson.
I have had several plywood guitars that actually sounded OK this one, a Kramer import,A Kaman L.P.copy and an Arbor RR copy.
It is what it is and I never judge a guitar by what wood was used but how it sounds and plays.

I had a Kramer that was plywood and it was a great-sounding guitar.

Hell some of those pancake Les Pauls are kind of plywood.

                Nice score!

I knew it. I agree about plywood bodies too. I have an old Charvette that is a really great sounding guitar with plywood body.
