If you want an Epiphone that says Gibson on the headstock there are lots of them on Ebay.
I don't really care if it said Gibson on it, I'm not that particular. I've even been keeping an eye out for a good price on an agile because I've heard relly good things about them.. I think it's just the really bad history and reputation that Epi has gained over the years. I know they are putting ut some better product nowdays, but I even have an Epi SG that's not much more than firewood. The newer stuff is better, but I just can't seem to get around it.
Is it a true maple cap or a veneer? If veneer, is it plain maple underneath or righ on the mahogany?
Great looking git, BTW--nice score!
Its a true maple cap. Its about as thick as the binding around the body. Its about 1/4" thick. Its a very well made guitar in both fit and finish. The only weakspots are the electronics. Cheap switches, pots and jacks. That stuff is easily replaced and inexpensive too.
From what I've seen/heard the ultras are nice guitars. I love the quilt top, but hate the cherry sunburst only option, just WAAAAAY too traditional for me finish wise.
I must say, as much as I've been jonesin for a les paul lately, I've checked out a few Epis that were pretty impressive. The one thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger is the name.. Does that make me a snob?
yes.. it does make you a snob!!! lol... Here is what I have found over the years... If you really know how to play your guitar nobody will ever question what brand it is unless they want to buy one. BTW.. It comes in a black quilt top too. Its really nice looking with the gold hardware.
