Big week! I have some great guitars in my Charvel WDM's, but something was missing...
I REALLY missed my Les Pauls.
I dug around on Craigslist a bit, and started small - I found a Berny LP Custom. Kinda beat, but had good electronics (SD 59's w/upgraded pots & tuners), and the price was right! I dressed it up a little bit (thanks Ben!), and got a cool Sykes model.
After that, I realized that nothing I could do was going to make me like my Shiva, so Todd Duane and I did a little trading, and I wound up with his Les Paul Robot. I was really apprehensive about this one after reading the reviews, but after having Todd demo it out, it was (and is!) cool as hell!
I spent last week out in Detroit, and had asked a guy about a white "Limited Edition" Les Paul he had listed on Craigslist. We went back & forth on it a bit, and when I got back, I drove about 30 miles (one way) to go check it out. FAKE...total FAKE!! Not sure if he knew it or not, but when you judge a book by it's cover, I'd say I was being set up to get scammed. Luckily, it wasn't my first rodeo, and when you have a mis-shapen headstock, screened serial number, poorly screened "Les Paul" sig, off-color decal, and a painted face on the peghead, it's best to walk away. Or...drive 30 miles back home.
Of course, that had me thinking LP all day yesterday and this morning. I had a couple guitars not getting much play - my Snakeskin Charvel WDM, and one of my Ibanez K7's. Drove around and played LOTS of guitars...and one caught my eye and ear! I walked out of GC with a Les Paul Traditional Pro - in a GOLD TOP!! I've always wanted one... And since I was upside down in the trade (in my favor), I snagged a nice LP Studio.
Big week, like I said! I have another trade in the works, and will be adding one more LP to the family. Here's the pics (poorly taken on a cell phone)...
