Picked this up through a trade for a song tonight...

yeah I know the pic quality sucks but I'd rather spend money on guitar gear than a cam.

Here's a couple of shots the previous owner had taken. The first one makes it appear almost black from the angle but it's silver. Guess I should mention that it's a neck-through.

The hardware on it is black. A lil worn but not bad for a guitar built in '83-'86. The headstock is like nothing I've seen on any other brand to be honest but sometimes different is good. It has a broken pup ring that I'll replace soon and a couple of small dings that the cam can't seen to capture. I foresee a refinish in the future at some point.

Um, I don't think those are the same guitar. As markD pointed out, the black one has a BC Rich headstock. It also has a chrome floyd bridge. The silver one has a black standard trem.

Yeah, that IS a BC Rich, says so even. Also looks like a bolt-on.

Yeah, those two pics I got from the previous owner but the first three I took myself last night. I may try to get some better ones in the daylight today. It has a Fender-style trem. My first guitar with one of those. I've always had hardtails or FR type. has no cover on the trem cavity, 5 springs. From what I understand the serial number is supposed to be under one of the covers. I'm about to remove the control cover now and see if it's there, if so I'll post it here.

I love the look and 80's vintage hardware on that. The black crown head tuners are sweet and it looks like it has got a big block for the trem. Are the knobs and switch recessed? If so, that's pretty cool too. How's the neck on it?

Yes, they're recessed. The switch has a knob style that I've never seen before, like a tapered cylinder, flat as the head of a nail on top. Loving the "speed knobs". The neck is glorious which surprised me considering what lil I have invested in this. It's got some rough nicks that I tried to get in the shot this time but I got it as a project anyway. Thanks to S1I2F3 I got a good start with all of his tips taken from his thread on the DXMG project.
(and yes I deleted the BC Rich pic, thanks for pointing that out guys, I should've looked closer before posting it)

It's not neck thru. I have one of these with the paint completely stripped off. It's a set neck
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I was just about to say the same. I sold mine a while back. It was a GX100, basically the same guitar with a TOM bridge.

I heard these were made only from '83-'86. Any truth to that? Set neck is cool with me. As you can see this one needs some TLC but I got it knowing that. The finish on the neck is just fine so looks like one of my issues will be blending the refinishing of the body onto the neck. Any tips on that or should I just sand and refinish the neck as well? Also I put a deposit down on a used Les Paul Custom today. I'll be picking it up on the first or second of the month. Thread on that one to come soon.
