OGD: Les Paul Custom refinned & modded

Yeah, it's my favorite guitar by a mile, dings or not. Now I don't have took look in panic whenever I bump it into something hehe.

It seems some guitars have a destiny to get messed up. Then other guitars I can play and play and very little stupidity occurs. My six month old Explorer (nitro fragile finish) has already had the bridge dropped on it (ding through to the wood), then the other night a screwdriver slipped out of my hand while I was adjusting the action. It was the plastic handle portion, but it still put about a 1" mark/ding in that fragile finish.

Jazz, that is one of the nicest customs I've seen in a while.

You can see the line around the repair, there are some dust specs for size comparison. I won't say I like it or anything, but if that wasn't there I'd find something else to bitch about or look at it for 10 minutes every time it brushes against something, instead I think "Well that's out of the way" and just enjoy playing it. I mean, if I was gonna have a Les Paul Custom that I didn't play I might as well have a lacquer one!

I feel your pain. My previously flawless RR1T was assaulted by my Taylor case latch as the case tipped over and the latch caught it on the bevel of the lower wing. Took a perfect pinky fingernail size chunk out of the finish. I think the Taylor was jealous that I still play the RR1T more.

In this case it was obviously jealousy as the culprit was an ESP Eclipse that I got in a trade and is now for sale while the victim was one of my SL2Ts, my favorites! The ESP was clearly aware of the situation and that it's a bastard child

I had a guitar like that too! It would be one ridiculous situation after another that caused damage to it. I concluded that it was damned and traded it.

P.S.: Jazz, sorry about the thread hijacking. Your guitar is still awesome!

Don, I have the locking bridge/tailpiece partly for that reason. The bridge so it doesn't move around when you have all the strings off to clean it (hate bumping the thumb wheels and thinking "Ah, just screwed up the action...") and the locking tail is so it doesn't fall off when I forget that it falls off when you take all the strings off.

If it weren't for that chip it would be something else, or I'd be afraid of making the first chip, so like I said, she's not perfect, but that's the idea, she gets the job done and begs for more and doesn't mind if you treat her a little rough.

Dan talked me into a tone-pros system while I was there because the bridge was collapsed.

Just to be clear, this wasn't the main reason I was there. I had a 1963 SG Special that I bought years ago that had a neck heal repair. Dan said the epoxy was never mixed right and it "gave up" one day. I took it to him to repair that neck heal joint. He does great work. He also put a bone nut on it, and a fret job,...make sure you bring lots of money LOL!
