While I do think that the finished product here is definitely much better than how it began, I'm a big fan of a quality black paint job. Black has a way of showing every lil imperfection, thus is harder to get "perfect" as any auto-body guy will tell you. I know we're talking guitars, not cars, but the principals are the same. To me, there's not much sexier on a guitar than a perfect black finish that's so deep you can swim in it and there's just as much work involved in getting that just perfect as there is in getting a fabulous wood finish like the one in this thread. Just so there's no misunderstanding, I agree that paint didn't do this particular one justice. It definitely needed to be done exactly the way it is now. I applaud your work Warlok. (My apologies if you feel I hi-jacked your thread.)

CFH - How dare you!!!! Really... How could you hijack my thread like that?? Trust me, all that is decent and holy will make a beeline for my place while the forces of evil will lose their way on their way to my domicile and head your way!! Sorry, about 20 beers in as we speak. Best jokes I have... Hope this is coherent at best..
I love black guitars and that was the plan on this one. Traded it as a project. Was gonna strip and paint but saw the wood and the direction changed. When I did my Model 6, I knew i was putting a maple top on and painting the back/sides black. This one had sweet looking wood so wanted to try a Tru-oil finish. I think it worked out good. I don't have it wired yet but will be soon. It is right now the most acoustically loud and sweet sounding guitar I have. Clear and fun to play "over the hills and far away" right now. Next will be my Soloist Pro. Just strip and paint. We'll see that one soon.Every man dies... Not every man really lives!!

Wired it up today. Used the .022 cap that was in there already instead of the SD recommended .047 and the Custom and the '59 were both more open, raw, and bright than they were in my Model 6. Like a more transparent/organic JB. I really like it. Living the dream!!Every man dies... Not every man really lives!!

Oh, and not counting black ghost flames or black with white bevels, I have about 12 black guitars. I applaud you for making one less black guitar in the world
I need to get off my ass and paint some graphics / find some decals or anything to break up the glut of black guitars I have. There are a few that won't get touched:
Black Model 6
Black LP Custom
Black Model 4 with gold hardware
Black HM Strat
Black MIM strat
...
Oh shit. This isn't looking good

Pretty much every SD wiring diagram I've seen shows a .047 cap. And the Dimarzio's show a .022. Maybe that's why I wasn't a huge fan of the Custom in my Model 6 (used .047). Too dark and it may have been better with a .022. Hmmm..
And I love a black guitar as much as the next guy. This one was just ugly!! I've been thinking what to do next with my Soloist Pro. Was thinking black with something painted on it but my lightning sky already has that covered. Again... Hmmmmm....Every man dies... Not every man really lives!!
