  • NGD! first Seven. Carvin DC700

Got my dc700 today. I must say the beautiful simplicity of this guitar is astounding. In hindsight I think the FT7 bridge is better if you dislike that ringing the TOM bridges seem to have. But I simply hate the way they look. Im also going to replace the nut as I simply think this one is too narrow and promoting the simpathy vibrations behind the nut. But regardless of some minor tweakings in its future the guitar is just perfect. The neck is very comfortable (this was my biggest concern) and the walnut they used has character but its not overly gaudy. I was also quite surprised by the case. I thought I was getting the plastic case but Ill take this all day long. Another big surprise were the pickups. They are hot with excellent definition. I simply see no need to change them for now, lol.

trust me the nut isnt designed properly. In many cases you want to have a smaller area of contact for the string at the nut if a trem is involved. Carvin is fond of using floyds without locking nuts and this nut seems to be designed for that purpose. The issue is with many carvins and this one being even worse is that when your palm muting a chord the portion of the string behind the nut rings and echoes. If the nut was thicker with more surface area for the string to make contact with this would be far less of an issue. There simply isnt enough material to stop the vibrations behind the nut. If you ever see a guy with a scrunnci or piece of foam under the strings thats what they are trying to stop. The TOM bridge does it too. Nature of the beast but with a better design it could be corrected.
