i've owned a ton of strats and my favorite one was a mij model.
but my favorite strat sounds are the in-between (2 and 4) positions.
put it through a princeton reverb and it's magic.

In my humble opinion: BKP Irish Tour and Trilogy are hard to beat.
The Sinner is a bit OTT though, unless you want to bring down low flying aircraft with feedback.
I probably had the wrong pots for it though in fairness.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

Going to say the Bareknuckle '63 Veneer board set. I think it will do what you want perfectly.

The Irish Tours and Trilogy Suites are great pickups, but not vintage sounding really. Even the Tours are too gritty for what I'd say is a classic strat tone.

The '63 veneer board set is exactly what you described -- Classic strat tone with a bit more oomph. Also, your strat has a rosewood board, so it should work out.

If you're after pure, '54 strat tone, the Apaches are unbelievable pickups, but 110% vintage.

          Guitar arrived today!!!!

This thing is pretty darn near mint for an '88 MIJ Strat!

First impressions are that the pickups as well as all electronics simply suck!

The neck however is a wonderful "C" shape and feels sinful.

I have no doubt that with some new guts this guitar will just sing.

I am going with some Lace Sensors with new CTS pots and CRL switch for now.

Nice. I had good luck with the fender 57's in a CP50s strat I once owned. For what it's worth.

So the cheap plastic nut cracked when I strung it up with 13-56 strings.

That and the tiny frets simply have to go so its off to my local tech for a new nut and a refret with some jumbo frets.

Gonna finally have a killer strat on my hands after all these years!
