  • NGD - Gibson SG Standard

Just picked this up locally for a very sweet deal. Cheaper than any I've seen on Ebay, and it's in great condition.

2005 SG Standard in ebony. Pickguard has been swapped out for a mirror one (not sure if it's staying or not), and tuners are Sperzel locking tuners. Stock pickups. I've been wanting an SG for a while, but was a little leery about neck dive. This one is surprisingly well balanced, and doesn't seem to neck dive at all. The neck is fairly chunky, but I like it a lot. Very comfortable. The finish is not what I would call fantastic considering it's a USA made guitar, but that's Gibson for you. Also came with original hardshell case. I was pretty much looking for a good local deal on a Special Faded, but I found this and couldn't turn it down.

Hah, yeah, someone on the HCAF said it reminds them of Glenn Tipton's Hamer Phantom GT.

Nice one. I really like the mirror guard on there.

Is the fingerboard rosewood or roasted maple on these?

Depends on when it was made.

                      This one will be rosewood.

Nice score. I've got a Standard myself. Fixed my Gibson GAS, although it gets played less than the rest of the stable sadly.

Tipton's big-guard SG was a Special IIRC (dots). He also had a small-guard Standard (trapezoids).

Every SG I've tried was a neck diver. The '76 Cherry and '74 burst I had, and the late 90's SG-X.

Maybe it's just the way I'm made
