  • Maple Partscaster - one or two pickups

I just picked this up from Jamie last night and after a quick string change and setup, she plays like a dream. A fairly heavy guitar, but definitely comfortable. I decided to finish it in a transparent emerald green with matching headstock. My big question is one or 2 pickups. I was thinking of routing a neck humbucker to make it more versatile, but then to have a single pickup metal machine is also way cool. What would you do, and of course.... pictures:

Such a nice top, I vote to keep it single and just add a coil tap.

Nice score, Pete! I'd just keep it simple with the one hum/one volume. You could always add a push/pull pot for coil splitting, or a concentric pot for tone if you want a little extra versatility out of it.

Man, am I glad you bought that one. It was an internal struggle of epic proportions for me not snag it.

If you must, just put a single in the neck. No need for a full sized hum up there.

Also, consider doing a burst of yellow to orange to red to purple (ala the ESP Lynch Tigers). Might looks cool, but would be more of a challenge.

                  Single hum for the win.

Perhaps a single in the neck with coiltap on the humbucker which could present another humbucker option depending on switch position?

Seeing that I've filled both neck hum routes in the two parts guitars I'm building right now, I vote leave it alone. I like the one hum single volume knob look. Push/pull to you're hearts content....

                        Push pull and tap it.

I like the versatility of a neck pickup, but that top is too nice to route, so I'd leave it. Well, it's not just the top, but the whole body! And I like the natural color of it. Maybe I'd add a hint of tint to it, but that'd be it.

Well since every one of my other guitars have at least 2 pickups, I'm gonna leave this alone and it will be a Metal Monster!!!
