Ordered a Taylor 114ce after playing several in stores. It came in today and it is absolutely horrible. I'm almost bleeding from the frets and the action is way higher than any of the other Taylor's I've played. Luckily, I got it from AMS and they have a good return policy. I may bump it up to a DN3. It does sound nice though.

The 100 series are the Mexican built ones. They are definitely not up to par with the US models as far as materials and build quality but I've never seen one with bad fretwork or way out action. I think you may have got a lemon. Either that or my local stores get cherry picked ones or something.GTWGITS! - RacerX

well, here you save almost $400. I would much rather support the little guy, but that's ridiculous. Also, AMS has a payment plan, eight little payments is a little easier than one big one. I called them up and the customer service rep said he had never heard of that before and talked me into exchanging it for another 114ce. AMS picks up return shipping also so it's not costing me any extra to exchange.I still keep practicing though.... Mostly because I hate my neighbors.-MakeAJazzNoiseHere

Good luck on the replacement. Hopefully it's perfect. I think your odds are good, I've played at least 3 different 114s and they all played and sounded great. Part of the secret is the strings. The Elixirs really warm the guitar up.GTWGITS! - RacerX

Yeah, hopefully a nice one comes as a replacement. I have a GS mini, 416ce and a 455ce both limited editions with spruce/rosewood and are amazing!
One thing I've noticed is that a lack of humidity will do a lot even to the neck and fretwork. I don't humidify the GS mini and the fret ends are very sharp now. I guess the mahogany neck has shrunk a little bit cause it was perfect when I got it.
