  • Used Peavey US Wolfgang or new EVH Wolfgang Special?

Both seem to be in about the same price range.

I haven't played a US Wolfgang in years so I kinda forgot the subtleties of how it plays.

I'm not buying a US EVH. $3K is unreasonable for me.

I'm also not sure about the Peavey Specials. Some are US, some Korean. Flamed means one thing, quilt means something else. One knob, two knobs, binding or not. I'm just lost.

So what do you all think about each?

And to really throw a kink in, has anybody played the Stealth Special? The ebony board/ flat finish really sounds cool.

I've got a US Wolgang Special and it's one of my favorites. Probably gets
the most playing time of any of my gits, and I've got a big collection that
includes lots of higher-end models than the Wolf. They can be had used for
~ $650 in mint shape. I don't see how you could go wrong with one, and if
ya didn't like it, selling it would be no problemo. Only thing is they're kind of
a Plain-Jane next to the fancy ones. My Special's a slab body basswood [I think?]
vs the the carved figured maple top on the Standard. You ARE right, there
are flattops with figuring both US and Korean. The US flattops go for around
a grand; no idea on the imports. Good hunting!

I'd go for a used Peavey Archtop Wolf. There are plenty of really nice ones still out there. If you like the neck carve they are great guitars.

I have an EVH Wolfgang Standard (USA). There is nothing wrong with the MIJ current EVH models. They are hice guitars that you can get new for the same price as a my guitar used, so if you find one that speaks to you why not? Which ever "speaks" to you more.

I played the new Stealth Special but had a very hard time with the vintage sized frets....it was a no-go for me.
Too bad cause I liked everything else about it.

What about the Peavey HP Special?
It's basiclly a post EVH Wolf with some minor changes.
I played a friends 2007 Archtop and I'm kind of digging it a little more than the Wolf. It's got a floating trem that can be locked to go down only, he's got his locked and setup with a D-Tuna.
It's a basswood archtop (no maple top on this model), push/pull coil tapped pups and he got it for about $850 with the case.

          Just another option.
