  • My new SG-X

My new SG-X. I won it off Batman in a cage fight last night. Can't decide to tune it to E and learn the VR songs, tune it to Eb and learn the GnR songs, or tune it to C and let it be the fire breathing metal monster I know it wants to be. Also I want to change out the Gibson 500T pickup it came with. I have a few lying around I'd like to try, but all my soldering stuff is in my workboxes, one is in Baltimore, the other is locked up in the boss' storage.

Big yellow Batman logo between the pickup and neck, crossing the body so the bat wings match the body tips.

As for the pickup, Duncan Custom or C5.

^^ This and make it Sabbath songs. Second the recommendation on the Custom although I have no experience with it in mahogany.

A Duncan Custom would probably sound great in that thing. That may have been called the SG-X for awhile, though I may be confusing it would a certain late '80s variant with the split diamond inlays and 25.5" scale that has to be one of most neck-heavy guitars ever.

I think you are right about it being an SG-1, it has a Roman numeral "I" on the truss rod cover. Looking it up the SG-X has that weird shaped pickguard, mine has none.

"The SG X began as the SG All American 1. It was introduced as the All American 1 in 1995 and was renamed the SG-X in 1998, but the specs did not change, only the name."

This makes sense, according to the serial number on mine it is a '96.

Nice SG-1. I've looked at a few of those myself. There was a really cool wine-burst one going cheap on Ebay, but it had a huge scratch across the front of the body.

I'd go with a Duncan Custom myself. In fact I am putting one in my own SG Standard as soon as I get a new pickguard.

                      Mine is here: http://www.jcfonline.com/threads/128...on-SG-Standard

I'm going to get a black 3 ply pickguard, replace the bridge pickup with a cream/black SH-5 Custom, and take the cover off the stock neck pickup. I know the cream/black pickup might look a little odd, so I may eventually get an all-black one to put in there.
                      Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!
