Hell I love my old Chinese built Austin LP copy.
It's my #2 guitar and has been ever since I got it. The electronics sucked, but the build quality and playability are fantastic.
I got it cheap... like $200. Was just to be a beater, but damn it plays great.
Here's a catalog pic of mine.

I stripped the pickups and electronics out and replaced with an SD JB/Jazz zebra set and CTS pots.
Here's a hi-res image.
The company was sold a while ago when SLM got bought out and is planning to launch new models.
Their new brochure is up and the new models looks like shit compared to the older ones.
Their new headstock design is craptastic too.
If you come across the older AU7xx models, play one.Last edited by rjohnstone; 05-25-2012, 03:20 PM.-Rick

I agree completely about there being better grades in the LP lineup. However, it shouldn't take $4-6K (new) to get the quality that should be present in any of their USA LP's.
I wasn't kidding at all about my Agile outplaying all of the Gibson Studios that I got my hands on. I have done nothing whatsoever to that guitar other than restring it. I bought it online (actually both of them) from Rondo. Those studios were not up to par, but they should have been at the very least a better playing instrument than a $225 Korean knockoff of LP's. I wish Gibson would get on the ball and take charge of their QC department, as well as take a look at what else is out there and what they are charging.Rudy

That GMP LOOKS and I'm sure feels and plays like a $3k guitar. Not to mention has been gone over with a fine tooth comb before it left for the customer to ensure that it was perfect.
What would a custom shop Gibson cost to have those kind of options and attention to detail? $6k? $7k? $8-10k?
I was at the local shop again a few days ago and played a LP Supreme. The damn thing had string buzz and sustain loss. Wasn't the setup. That was phenomenal....from the 6th fret to the nut. The fucking 6th fret was high and needed to be tapped down or ground down. The tech didn't have the time to do so (was leaving for a Dr.s appt) and had not finished taking care of it yet. I just happened to get hold of it before he did. I asked him about it and he told me' "that's not unusual to have to take care of these kinds of things from Gibson. I've seen it on studio's, I've seen it on guitars from their custom shop that cost $9k"
WTF?I live on the edge of danger facing life and death every single day.....then I leave her at home and go disarm bombs.

If GMP would ever make shorter Gibson scaled necks instead of their 25.5-inch ones, I would think they’d start cutting into Gibson’s customer base. I’m still not sure why GMP hasn’t ever made anything other than 25.5. I have a Roxie I bought with part of the profit when I sold my LP in 2005, and it is a fantastic playing and looking guitar. And if it had a 24 ¾ inch neck scale, I would not be as interested in this thread…or at least I’d think GMP would be the first ones mentioned in this thread!"Your work is ingenius…it’s quality work….and there are simply too many notes…that’s all, just cut a few, and it’ll be perfect."

Many of the metal shredders and players I like, in Europe, and Sweden seem to love ESP LTDs. So much so..I'm thinkin' about tryin' one."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

And another vote for the Eclipse.
Non-new ones (all of which provoked Gibson to throw their toys out of the pram, but only because they were better than the shit coming out of their own factory at the time)- the old 80s Tokais. Also Rhino did some which were pretty good about 15 years ago.
Washburn did an LP too, in the early 90s, apparently the one in this commercial:
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!
I nearly broke her back
